Last day of season- final showdown

It's the last day of our deer season in SC. It's still raining and I'm at work. Rain supposed to stop this morning I think. I'm hoping to make one final attempt at another deer tonight after work. A specific 8 point buck I've been after. The good news is that my freezer is full and if I don't get him, he should still be around next year if he doesn't die from non hunting related incident. I've been after him for three years now. I have had him dead to rights twice. Last year, a tiny branch on a very small bush deflected an arrow that was meant for his lungs into his front leg on front of his shoulder which left a scar but no real damage. This year I screwed up a shot at less than eight yards by not being prepared with my shotgun (I've sworn off gun hunting as of that incident - it just doesn't feel right anymore) when he showed up right where I hoped he would.
So, Mr buck, this is the year's final showdown. I hope to see you this evening.

Good luck!
I've only hunted twice in december, I've been gearing back up for winter bow which opens tomorrow.

Got my '11th hour' buck this morning! Last hunt of 2015 and buck season ends Saturday. He trotted into my woodline from a field at first shooting light and I doubled-lunged him at 13 yards quartering away.

That is a huge 6! And it's so green there! I was after a very mature 6 point this year as well, but I never got him. Congrats.

Great buck! Congrats!

No deer sighted. But it was peaceful. Glad I got to spend the last evening of season in the woods. You know how it is. Being out there is like a sacred, spiritual, worshipful experience. It helps put life in perspective and reminds us that we're only a part of His creation.
It's very warm, and been raining hard for days.
Plus I'm sure that even with my scent Control, I've over hunted this property and influenced the deer.
It's hard not to over hunt it.
I only hunted one time outside these fifty or so acres. Took that broken seven pointer (six pointer) within half an hour of hunting buddy's property.
One young buck and two year old doe this year. One big doe lost in rain (I still feel guilty over that one)
Plus the screwed up 8 yard shoot at my big 8 point.
It was a good year. Last year I only got one doe.
Goal next year:
Traditional only.(two of my kills this year were with traditional)
I've lost all desire to gun hunt. At least for the foreseeable future.

Glad you got out there. I know the exact feeling that you had of being out there.
Hopefully he will still be there next year and if you get him with traditional gear it will be even more rewarding!

Well said Essdub!!! We are indeed just a small part of His majestic creation.
