Leaners and Knee Pads

The little experience I have in a saddle, I tend to switch between leaning and sitting with knees on the tree. I'm always really happy to have the knee pads. I may try a kneeling pad just to experiment.

I Always wear my TL knee pads. They help also in cold weather to keep these old knees warm.

I wear pads, but I also started running a strap between my knees.
This keeps my knees from trying to slide out and let's me stay in position longer.

I’m a leaner and I wear a cheapo set from Walmart. They are lightweight and I hardly notice the are there. They are handy for the 1 or 2 short 10 minute “sitting” periods that I take throughout a hunt to take some stress and pressure off the legs and back. I wouldn’t go out and buy some expensive knee pads for the small use that I have for mine.

From my experience last year, I am a leaner, and use a sitdrag, I used a pad on the tree for a while, then some cheap knee pads, then nothing, and I spent a lot of time with nothing, just didn't feel the need to bother with it. I'm hoping to build a DIY saddle and I'm going to try sitting more and a ROS and I'm planning on some kneepads. I think as you get into saddle shape you will use them less and less, at least for a leaner. Hopefully that helps a little.

I like to wear one knee pad. I lean, rest one one knee. Long sits I lower my height and sit sideways to totally rest. My knees never will get used to tree bark at my weight lol

I’ve been mixing between both since I’m new to this. I also have a sit drag. I own a pair of Sitka Timberline pants which are not only amazing for durability, but they have knee pads that you can take in and out. Awesome piece.

Sounds awesome, and expensive, lol!

When I lost some weight I notice things like this were MORE painful! You don’t have that cushion anymore. Sitting on hard bleachers and stuff is way worse. Just bumping into things hurts more too.

I’m going to have to increase my tree pad because it’s too thin and my knees feel the bark after a long sit.

Been swinging from a saddle for 10 years and have never felt the need for knee pads. I’ve never had any discomfort to push me to try them. I’m mostly a leaner and use a ring of steps. I guess the less gear the better...?

I typically wear them but hardly use them. I am thinking about moving to a pad like Fling has done - my #1 reason is because I can put it in my fleece dayback under platform, saddle, etc.... so it rides next to my back and keeps sharp objects off me and gives so internal rigidity while walking in. Typically everything is in my pack on the walk it, sticks attached to outside pack and I carry my bow.

Trophyline knee pads here. I mostly lean but it's nice to alternate with knees to the tree from time to time.
