Probably will never climb trees much bigger than a summit treestand will get on so how long will they need to be . kestler has 6 and 12 offered on tether. I did not order the kit cause already had rope but before I go to chopping up good rope kinda wanted to hear from some experience. Cannot wait till next season. When rut hit this year was hunting huge 2 yr cutover and no way to climb in climbers on the trees they did leave without trimming and sticking out like sore thumb. Whole new era of hunting about to open

Sounds fun. I'd love to join you. Twelve foot tether is pretty long. Take one of your ropes out to a tree that represents the largest you would hunt and put it on the tree. You'll get a good idea of what you need.

It seems to me that a 7 foot tether can handle most trees. Take the diameter of the tree and multiply it by Pi (3.14) to get an idea of need rope length to wrap around the tree. A tether with a finished 7 foot length will cover trees up to about 21-22 inches.

I hunt a couple of trees that I can't reach around at the base. I currently have a 12' tether but it is way longer than I need even for those trees. I plan on cutting it down to 8-9 feet.

I made both of mine 10' before knots. They've both worked well for me, the tether could probably be a little shorter.

Depends on the size of tree you plan on climbing. I've only tried it on trees around 12-15" diameter.

A 7 foot usable length will be fine for most trees. Knots eat up a good amount of rope, you will probably need 11-12 feet to make that 7 feet. It's better to have a little extra then trim it down.

7.5' lineman
I rappel so my tether is 35'
Do you let your long tether hang down or manage it some way when you are at height and hunting? I was thinking of putting mine in a stuff sack or something after I tie in but haven't tried it yet. I don't like it swinging and drawing attention though. Just curious what you are doing.

I did the same thing for a few hunts last year I clipped a sew fleece dump pouch to a seat pad that I used for a knee pad. I just dumped the extra in the pouch worked great. You would be surprised I hunt for a Platform so I don’t really walk around the tree. I shuffle my feet to get 360 shooting and the rappel rope didn’t move much at the bottom of the tree. My rappel rope has some weight to it so that helps don’t know how it would handle wind though

I have the guidos web and it has a compartment on the back of the back rest of the seat, this is were I keep the rappeling rope.
When I use the Sitdrag, I keep the rappelling rope in a back pack and hang the pack on the tree.
