Minimalist set ups.

I went thru my Eberlestock X2 the other day. I have a kill kit, knife, zip ties, baggies, license, pen, that's in one small bag. I have a wool hood, gloves, two pairs of wool socks, grunt tube, range finder, a couple small screw in hooks, a gear hanger, head light, 50 ft 550 para cord, 40' 9mm rappelling rope, mad rock safe guard, couple auto blocks, couple carabiners, saddle, LWHC, and tether with Ropeman 1, a wool vest sometimes. I have to say this pack is the best fitting pack that I have ever owned, it fits me like a glove. Oops forgot my Doyle’s hoist and saw.

Did you weigh you all that?

The reason I ask is I have the same pack, 3 helium sticks, predator platform, mantis saddle etc, small folding saw , gutting knife, head light, small binoculars, range finder ,grunt call. And I’m weighing in a 27 lbs. I read so many are about 17- 21lbs. I’m just trying to figure out if those weights are do able.

I'm curious how you're adding up to 27 lbs... 11 lbs. for your sticks, 3 lbs. for your platform, 1 lb. for your saddle, 1 lb. for your saw, knife, light and grunt call combined, 3 lbs. for your binos and range finder combined. I may be off just a bit, but that's 19 lbs. right there. How heavy is the pack itself?

There seems to be a trend of people buying giant expensive packs for saddle hunting. I feel like in doing so, you'll justify cramming more stuff in there. If you're hiking miles in and packing meat out, I think it's justifiable. Otherwise I feel like it defeats the purpose of saddle hunting. Most people could carry the bare minimum and leave a few things in their vehicle if they kill something. Less carried in, less I have to misplace. But that's just my opinion.

It’s the eberstock x 2 it’s says it weights around 4.5lbs. I’ve weighed it on 2 different scales . I’ve add up the weights of the items In the bag according to the weights posted on websites and it only comes up to about 21. Who knows?

Well since I hunt in the mountains and will have to pack a meat out, I thought it would be a good idea to take a medium pack. If I was hunting that close to my truck I’d take a climber. I’m weighing by just getting on the scale with my pack on the weighing with it off then subtracting the difference.

I brought my pack to work tonight and I will weigh it at lunchtime. I can’t think of anything in the pack that I would want to leave behind. The weight does not bother me. Sometimes I carry cameras also. I’ve done a lot of walking with a loaded pack and never thought how I could make it lighter. Lol I metal detect in the spring and summer with a pack that’s just as heavy maybe heavier.

OK, just weighed mine the only thing that wasn't in there is my wool vest. I came in at 24 pounds even.

I really have grown to despise clutter when hunting. I've been searching for the simplest lightweight setup, I think I've really nailed it this season with my current saddle setup. I use a miltec assault pack small, in it I have the following:
- 4 or 5 WE steps
- knife (swiss forester gutting and limb trim)
- range finder
- water bottle
- milk weed in a pill bottle
- can call
- grunt call
- TP
On my saddle I have the following:
- 33' of 550 cord
- WE perch w/ step always attached
- Pouch w/ bridge/tether, bow hangar & single step aider.
My length of sit doesn't change what I bring except that I'll maybe pack a few snacks. I still have a ton of room to take more even though this particular pack is incredibly small.

How’re you liking the Perch compared to the Predator (if you’ve used both)?

The 3 hawk helium’s with straps weighed 10lbs, mantis with tether and L belt carabiners 4 lbs, platform with strap 4lbs, pack 5, binos call knife etc 4 lbs

I like the perch better for one simple reason, convenience. I was going to use the WE steps anyway, I wanted a complete system. It's more compact imo, some have trouble fitting the perch to a tree, but I've really nailed it down and have not had trouble with it at all!!

I got on KETO and reduced my hunting weight by 35#s - the most effective hunter weight reduction program I have found. So many of us try to cut 1-5 pounds from our packs when we have an abundant 30-50 pounds right on top the old belt line - just sayin.
