I purchased a set of Muddy Pro Climbing Sticks from a member on this forum. He said in his ad that he purchased the sticks in 2018 and due to the purchase date, the sticks were not part of the recall. It turns out they were recalled. I am currently working with Muddy to see if I can turn them in for a new set. My hopes aren't high. Below is information I obtained from The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission about the recall.

You can check out the information for yourself on their website at https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2012/m...sticks-due-to-risk-of-serious-injury-or-death

I hope that this information is helpful to others.

Thanks

Well...

The seller should take them back and refund you your money. Since I do not believe it is legal to sell recalled products new or used.

I just sold Muddy sticks on this forum. Mine met all the criteria that's on the .gov site you mentioned for recall sticks. I was convinced my sticks, based on that .gov site, were recall. I finally contacted Muddy and they asked for more info about my sticks...turned out they were NOT recall sticks. That .gov site is a little misleading in some cases.
My sticks had serial numbers embossed in the stick. Even though they showed all of the other recall criteria, the fact they had embossed serial numbers proved they were not recall sticks...the .gov site never mentions EMBOSSED serial numbers.
Anyone questioning the Muddy sticks needs to contact Muddy for clarification. Don't just rely on the .gov site.

I originally thought the same thing. The info on that site is 6 years old. I believe the recall was on sticks manufactured in 2012.

Not saying the OP sticks are recall or not. Just saying the .gov site can lead someone to believe the wrong thing.
Call Muddy and get certainty from them.

Three phone calls and three emails, still no response from Muddy on my Pro sticks with orange flecked rope, and single retainer on stand-offs....
Poor customer service.

I bought muddy pros direct from Muddy in 2018 so they're the latest release and they match all the criteria in the photo. As such, I would agree you probably need to dig a little deeper to know for sure whether they are recalled or not.

Hang in there they will get back to you but it will take some time. I had a similar experience mine matched everything in the .gov site but were not recalled sticks. I'll see if I can dig up the emails, I think he explained the numbers on the sticks and i think it was only a small batch that got recalled and they have most of them back already.

I'm pretty sure I still have the emails Muddy sent me. I figured I better hang on to them in case of future litigation against me. I can look for them but I'm not sure it will help. The emails Muddy sent me pertain to MY sticks. I'd hate for someone to wrongly apply that email info to their sticks and have a stick failure.

I got 8 steps all burnt orange ropes and only one post?

Did you make sure beyond a shadow of a doubt they are recall? They have most of the recalled sticks back from my understanding.

If so I would hope this started with a PM to the seller. If not that would have been a good starting point.

If the seller won’t make it right. Muddy will.
I have owned and sold 5 or 6 sets i checked them with muddy and so far none have been recalled even the ones that appeared to match the recall notice.

Either way you should have your money or new sticks.

I wish you the best.

All,

I am not saying that the seller was in the wrong. I am not saying the .gov site is right. I am new to hunting (7 years exp) and new to saddle hunting (just started this year). I am just trying to provide additional information I found so that others will have a little more information to base their buying decisions on. Or at least have them check things out themselves before committing to a purchase. I have used the sticks a few times and the only thing I have noticed is that the bottom step moves around a little.

Heard back from Muddy and apparently these are recall sticks. I am skeptical due to fact that I bought them new in 2019 and they shipped direct from manufacturer, but according to customer service rep at Muddy they are indeed recall. No serial numbers.

Customer rep at Muddy didn't do a lot to inspire confidence.

She’s or he’s an idiot. Those are made 02-19 they should be fine. I would call back talk to someone else.

Following, I just got a set from eBay and was going to keep one and sell the others. They have the black/orange rope and single posts on the standoffs. Called Muddy and they seemed to indicate they were recalled ones and I should try to return them on eBay first.

That's pretty much word for word what they said to me - return them to Cabelas.

When I say the customer rep didn't exactly inspire confidence... this is what I was actually thinking. It was a poor experience.

Muddy has terrible customer service. Started going down hill about 4 or 5 years ago. I have called them prior to that and talked to several people there at different levels in the corporate
