Friday, November 7th I headed back to our 140 acre lease in Meigs County hoping the rut activity had picked up. The morning sit was really windy and cold and at 7 am I spotted a buck behind me in the pines coming my way. I got ready and when he stepped out I realized it was the same buck I had passed earlier in October. This time though he looked nicer than I remembered and I was kind of bummed when I didn't get a shot as he walked off. Right after the buck left, my wife texted me to tell me they had moved the due date for our coming daughter and my time was getting cut even shorter! I said to myself then I would shoot him given the chance again. That evening, I moved to another area at the other end of the property and was settled in by 2 pm. It was a slow afternoon and was DEAD calm. I took a quick nap and enjoyed the afternoon. At 4:30 I heard a deer walking and turned around to see a big bodied deer with a nice rack walking through a brushy field and into the pines. I didn't know what deer it was so I grabbed my bow and grunted twice. I saw him turn and head for an opening 20 yards away so I swung around the tree in the web, drew and waited. He stepped into the opening and I saw it was the same buck! I was filming the hunt and just as I settled the pin I looked at the camera and saw he wasn't in frame all the way so I let down. He continued walking parallel to my tree and stopped perfect in the only opening I had. I got the camera lined up on him and zoomed in and came to full draw. I had a small twig to shoot over so I was holding a little higher in the lungs and at the shot he ducked a few inches spining him. I quickly put another arrow through his lungs and he was done! I know he isn't the biggest we had around but I am happy to use my tag on him!
This picture makes him look bigger than what he really is but it may be my favorite one!
Here is the video! First part of the hunt I use a regular lock on but I end up killing my buck from the web at another spot we hadn't scouted. I had found so much sign in that area I moved in and found the perfect tree to catch the deer crossing between pine thickets.
