So I havent been on SH very long but I have been consumed by this "new to me way of hunting", since around August or September of 2017. I bought my Kestrel and have been slowly compiling my arsenal of saddle hunting gear. I knew I needed a climbing system and liked the climbing stick method. I searched SH and Youtube and found DIYSportsman video on his 1.5lb DIY climbing sticks.

DIYSportsman/Bowhunter15's SH build thread on these sticks.

I also found Flinginairos 1.25lb stick build thread.https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?ur...&share_tid=6384&share_fid=104184&share_type=t

I didn't have the thought process to use my tablesaw at the time and couldnt source a 6061 T6 1"x2"x0.375", thats why I opted to go with Bowhunter15s style. Since then I have figured I will do a future build like Flinginairos and purchase 2"x2"x0.375" and cut it down to the 1"x2" dimension.

So then I thought, but how am I going to make Bowhunter15s steps?!?!? I dont have a CNC Router table, endmill setup, or waterjet at home or work....

How about a fixed router setup? Nope, tried it... My setup wasnt stable enough.

DINGGGG.... Dado cuts on a table saw!!!

Hopefully all of this info helps some of you DIYers with your builds. The following pics I hope will describe my process as best as possible. Any questions, fire away!

MATERIALS LIST:

7ft - 6061 T6 Aluminum Square Tube 1"x1"x1/16" cut to 24" long
(Yes I had 1ft left over, I didnt know if it came exact to size)

https://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=20737&step=4&showunits=inches&id=1270&top_cat=60

6ft - 6061 T6 Aluminum Rectangle
1.5"x0.375" cut to 10" long
(Yes extra again, but I used this left over for reinforcement inside the tubes, behind the lower steps)

https://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=1156&step=4&showunits=inches&id=997&top_cat=60

Leftover Aluminum Rectangle
3 pieces - cut to 1.5"x3/4"

Top tube cap and Top step reinforcement-
These were made from some scrap 6063 block I had at work. You could buy 6061 T6 1"x1" square stock and produce the same part or omit this cap and just use more of the aluminium rectangle and to reinforce.

1" square stock

Man, you got me rethinking buying Dan Infalts sticks that are supposed to be 2 pounds apiece. $320 for 4 sticks.

Looks like I could make a nice set for under that

Definitely could, I would build two or more sets for that price! Thats why I posted this and attempted the build with what I had. Little bit of elbow grease and improvisation you can build just about anything. Ive always been more comfortable with something I built.
