Shout out to Red Beard for the inspiration.

I have a Scout Solo on order (3 weeks out), but I had a 1” Scout and a bunch of parts laying around. So, I channeled my inner always89y and got to work.

Parts used for stick/stand:

*1” OOAL Scout from EWO
* original LW stick cut down to 10”- just below versa button
* LW versa button
* DanO ultralight bracket x2
*7’ 1/8” Amsteel button runner (my own creation) top connection
*7” 7/64” Amsteel daisy chain bottom connection
* 12” piece of tubular webbing-friction protection for top Amsteel
*12” NiteIze gear tie to keep top connection positioned

Two step aider parts:
* 1/8” Amsteel soft shackles x2
* 1/8 Amsteel top step finished at 16” with 6” step from
reinforced water line
* 1/8” Amsteel bottom step finished at 18” with 6” step made with buried zip tie
* strips of Gear Aid reflective tape in middle and edges of each aider step

Notice
I don’t cam it all the way down

I push down with my hand and then let the bottom strap pull in the opposite direction (down) from the top strap. This really helps with side pressure

Plenty of room, but I think I would actually prefer more shallow standoffs. Lots of leverage on those two bolts the way I have it set up now.

Can’t wait for my real Scout Solo. I will transfer my aider to it.

Both steps on my aider end up being 18”. I made the top one 16” to account for it being connected with soft shackles

So, I changed out the tree brackets/standoffs from DanO to Beast sticks.
I definitely like the profile of this setup better. Should be less likely to break from camming now because the fulcrum is shorter.

Down to 35 oz even now.

I’ve been inspired by Red Beard as well. I put a 2 step aider on my solo scout to finish off my climb. I can get around 80” with it. I found attaching the aider to the knobs of the solo scout worked nicely.

I’d also highly recommend timberhitching the solo scout with amsteel. That has been an effective and solid way to eliminate the metal buckle on the strap. A daisy chain cannot tighten enough for the camming action on the solo scout.

I’ve also practiced climbing with just the solo scout and aider. It definitely works! I don’t think it will be my go-to unless I’m really going in deep and trying to stay ultralight.

Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to see the future developments!
