New member in Ohio / Sling Mods

Hello. I usually jump right in when I try something and this time isn't any different. I have been reading about saddle / slings for a while and found an Anderson / Big Buck Sling on ebay cheap, so here I am. I have had it for a week and have already cut it up...typical of me. I didn't like the apparent limitations of the connected tree strap so I modded my own bridge and am going to use a removable strap. The bridge is 1" tubular webbing attached to the rings where the original one connected. it is tied on with a water knot. The long tag ends are because I am not sure right now how long I want the bridge.
I am excited to give this a try.

I have a few modded Anderson slings that are similar. Or at least they started that way. One of them is pretty much the same as you've done here as far as the bridge. But I cut off one of the "cradles" and it's great for lightweight 4hr sits. My favorite Anderson sling still has both cradles to sit in but I use my one rope method ( a single long rope to use as lineman, bridge, ascent/descent rope) so that I can adjust to whatever bridge / lineman/ rappel configuration I want for that situation

essdub--how long of a line do you use for a tether/lineman/bridge in a single line setup? Just curious

Welcome to the site. I have an andersling and I like it alot. I used bolt cutters to cut off the heavy rings and I use lightweight carabiners instead.

Water knots are used to connect 2 ends of webbing, so I don't think you used those. More likely you used an overhand on a bight retrace.

Yep. The two sites I got the instructions from called it a Water Knot, but the definition that I found didn't match that.

It just depends. I can adjust on the fly if I use the single rope so I just find that happy place. Usually in small diameter trees, I end up with a chin height short tether and longish bridge

I made this mod to my sit drag with the bridge and I really like it. Mine is currently a little over 3' and it definitely has helped with hip pinch.

Cool.... Welcome. Where in Ohio are you? I use an Anderson/Big Buck. Agree with the bridge. There is a guy in Ohio now who I bet has spent more time in an Anderson sling than any other man alive... and killed more mature bucks from one too! He turned me onto them. Completely different set up from bridge and tether perspective. But I really like the two 'cradles' and all that you can do to adjust them. Good luck. I'm hunting from Licking to Guernsey county this year. Not too much north or south, but there are lots of big deer out east too.
