New saddle build

Review after more hunting time.
Still very comfortable. Trampoline mesh is too slick. Slides up easy on fleece or soft material making it feel like it's gonna slide up to your arm pits when trying to spin around to shoot behind you.
Don't like the polyester webbing either for the same reason. Too slick. Nylon would be a better choice.

Re: RE: Re: New saddle build

Me too. But it would have to be WAY LIGHTER and smaller than my aero

Shaun.
How much does the aero weigh? Just curious, my Weaver Cougar was 6.5lbs before I took the bolt cutters to it and got rid of all the metal.

Um. I don't remember. I remember being very comfy in the aero once I got into the tree. It was getting into the aero and carrying it (or wearing it) into the woods to begin with that I couldn't ever get used to.
If I carried it, then I ended up making a bit of noise and then struggled with getting into it quietly in the dark. And if I wore it into the woods then it wouldn't stay up on my waist no matter how tight I got the belt.
Once I was in the tree though, it was great

Mabe while my boss is out to lunch I'll sneak in in here an put it on a postal scale without anything on it to see what it weighs bare.

Looks like I'm sitting at 6#4.1oz for my saddle..... Hmmm. Maybe I can do better ;)

Man I wish one of you guys lived here in missouri so I could give one a go before commiting to a new saddle rig. The other thought I had was to ditch my leg loops for a home sewn sling... Maybe when it gets so cold I'm willing to work OT to buy the materials.

Yep, that trampoline material is slick as snot. I also had the side loop pinch. I cut off the gear loops and added a dedicated strap with loops sewn on at 10 and 2 to keep them out of the pinch zone. Check out my DIY Rc harness mod.

I did cut all the gear loops off the alpine bod harness but I added lineman belt loops on it which I never use because I use my saddle as a linemans belt. I just use my rc harness as a back up while in the hunting position. I attach it to the bottom of my tree tether with a prussic knot.

Since polyester is much more UV resistant, do you think it would work better simply replacing the trampoline material with something that has a bit more grip? I love this design.

The design is good i just want to replace the polyester webbing with nylon because it grips better in the buckle and it's softer/quieter. And take off the trampoline mesh. May put some kind of cloth. That's gonna be next years project. I'll finish up the year with this one.

I have a TON of 2" webbing from old safety harnesses and random mililtary gear. I've been patiently getting my ideas down. I'm about ready to start up the sewing machine and make my ultimate saddle. I also just bought a new Singer Heavy Duty. I'm anxious to break it in.

What would be the best online source of 2 inch seat belt type webbing? I have been making my saddles out of the old free harnesses that come with tree stands but I now and getting picky and want my webbing to match my other materials so I am needing to order some brown webbing. I got my brown 1 inch for my saddle belt from Rockywoods but they don't have a matching 2 inch webbing.
