New to the forum, been lurking and reading quite a few posts too. Also new to saddle hunting. Ordered a Kite and Tethrd ropes this past week. Still on the fence about climbing options. I like the WE steps for flexibility in crooked tree's, but don't know how many to start with.
 
Welcome aboard. I bought a dozen to start off with. All depends on how high you want to get and if you are an aider with them. If using an aider you can cut that down to 5-6 steps to get 18 - 30 feet. @BassBoysLLP is getting upwards of 30’ with 5 steps
 
Welcome to the site! I’m not sure what your current setup is? I might lean towards sticks out of the gate. You can always add a moveable aider (DaveT) has a great video. Do what’s most comfortable, it’s just a good bit to get all sorted out initially. They’re quiet, relatively easy to get used to & shorter learning curve than stepps. All that said I do like stepps & plan on using 6 this year......... if nothing else it’s tree time in the off-season perfecting what you like no matter what you choose.
 
Hey from Hot Springs. I went with Hawk Helium sticks. You can get a set of 3 for $99 now. Currently in the process of modding them and adding aiders. They are a popular climbing method as well.
 
Thanks for the responses! I do like the simplicity of the sticks and they seem faster to climb with, but the flexibility of steps in a crooked tree is very appealing. Steps, from what I can tell will be lighter and more compact. current setup is a clean slate, been hunting from ladder stands that belong to my father in law on private land...... there's just so many options and choices!

Gotcha, I’d still lean towards sticks initially. Less to figure out for your setup. I’ve never really found them to be limiting the trees I selected..... maybe you’ll pick right up on stepps. You just really need to work with them & I want you to love the saddle. Just figured simple out of the gate is always good.

I appreciate that, I like simple! That's why I didn't make a purchase until I got some more information .

Hey welcome. I live in Oklahoma but really close to Siloam springs AR. I havewild edge Stepps and my buddy has hawk helium sticks and we are willing to let you try them out here. We have plenty of trees and we have a size 1 and 2 kestrel a sitdrag and have 2 mantis saddles on order. We have 5 hunting this year out of saddles.

We love sharing and helping other get into saddle hunting.

Thanks for the offer! I went ahead and got 8 wild edge steps, I have a buddy that has some muddy sticks that I can mess with when my saddle comes in hopefully next month. If I need some setup help when I get everything, I may hit you up for help then.
