well new'ish,

I've actually been lurking for a while; I'm up here in the great northwest - I tend to do most of my big game hunting on the western slopes of the cascades, so plenty of trees for me to hang out in. I've seen saddles in the past and always thought I could do a lot better on elk with something more portable. Well, there was a trophyline that was clearance at my local Sportsmans this last winter so I grabbed it and played around a bit. Looking around the web for more stuff about saddles and I found this site. Now I've got a sit drag setup :D I've been doing the single stick thing for a while now with my hang ons and i'm pretty comfortable with the sling so now I'm fully committed to it for this year. I've just put away my climbers and hang ons, no going back!

My setup is:

- static line tether in a girth hitch with 2 prusiks.
- 1 to my black diamond alpine and the other for the sit drag.
- a line belt with a ropeman 1 on one end (for one handed operation)
- no mod sit drag with a climbing grade utility line bridge
- saw'd off guide gear stick with a few feet of webbing to make the additional light weight step

the whole thing comes in at ~5lbs and i'm pretty stoked to take my first animal from it. Our bear opener is Aug 1, and I've already got a few candidates, until then i'll be practicing. Happy hunting!

Sounds like you're way ahead of the curve.
Have fun. Be safe.
Post some pics of the land you hunt, I'd really like to see them.
Been wanTing an elk forever, but no love yet. Maybe next year

Your assessment is correct. You have officially passed "newbie" status and are well into "newish". Let the air out of one of your bruins and you'll move right on up into "veteran" status. Good luck and welcome to the addiction!

I think this is my #1 candidate so far, I have yet to take a color phase
