Opening day in the Keystone State

Best of luck!

I had plans to go out, but sadly, it seems like I have responsibilities to attend to :(

First hunt with the new setup. Crisp morning in the NE. Nothing so far but squirrels and coyotes.

Very chilly in the Laurel Highlands. So far, nothing but I'm sure fiddle farting around trying to get set up (first ever saddle hunt) didnt help matters. Not to worry, we have a month to get the kinks ironed out. Nov, is no nonsense

Ugh, that sucks. My wife (and kids) learned long ago, they get from Dec through sept. I get oct and the first 2 weeks of Nov...period

Howling a couple hundred yards before sunrise. Definitely letting the air out of any that come in range.

Its crazy how chilly it is. I'm in Johnstown and it was 80s 2 days ago, 38 this morning

I live down in Schellsburg and kinda wish I’d of gotten up and went this morn. I got some things I gotta do first but I’ll head out this afternoon for a sit though. Be my first saddle hunt. I can’t wait. It’s really nice out this morn.

Good luck. I grew up hunting in PA. I don't hunt there anymore, but heard they were going to allow hunting on a handful of Sundays this year.

I hope you get a few more hunting days as a result.

The farmers bureau is fighting it tooth and nail. It's crazy because they reap the benefits of crop management through our dmap program. I wish they'd pass it and any farmer against would lose their red tag status. We'd see how fast they come around. I dont get why they just wouldn't post "no sunday hunting". Problem solved.

It was quite chilly this AM. Tonight should be decent.

Well, opening morning is a wrap. Saw 3 doe at 70yds. Everyone hunting in the area I was in saw multiple deer. No shots that I know of though. All in all an enjoyable morning

Yeah, the no Sunday hunting always drove me nuts. For most work schedules, you lose half your hunting days if you can't hunt Sunday.

As you mentioned, if a land owner doesn't want Sunday hunting on their property, they can just enforce that with the people they gave permission to.

Anyway, I digress. No reason to derail the discussion any further.

About the same. Had two groups of does come by about 50 yards at the closest. Perfect morning to be in the woods.

I'm calling it for the evening the wind is blowing a little to stiff for my liking. If it were end of Oct beginning of nov, different story

Well, I had 5 yards to go to the tree I wanted to set up in over some acorns, made it the final 2 yards and then busted a real nice buck out of his bed :( maybe he'll circle back for evening chow.

Glad to see all these PA saddle hunters. Everyone I talked to about it had never heard of a saddle before. Any whats, the saddle treated me good this morning, 7 doe and 5 bucks (all spikes and forks), was at full draw on one of the doe but she busted when I did the old “meh”. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don’t I guess. Back up in the tree now, looking for some 4 legged steaks.
