Over center buckle

I'm sorry again guys. I'm having a lot of trouble getting good audio quality on this video. You don't even want to know how many times I have filmed this. I'm hoping to have something sooner but I will make sure to get something up by the end of the month at the latest, even if I have to dub audio in over the video.

Awesome! I appreciate your time on that. Looks like a winner. Cover the buckle in stealth strip and your golden. Its too bad the heavier version isn't made in a 1" b/c I like the clip but if the lighter one holds fine than go with it. Also Scott did you have to get your own strap and sew it or did it come with one?. I just wish I could come across 3 more ameristeps without re mortgaging my house

I'm glad you like it! Yea once you cover it in a stealth strip it should be completely silent. The heavier one is really nice, it is just huge. I found very few overcenter buckles in a 1" version. The ones that i did get are not up to the job. If you find any let me know. I think the thing about the 2 inch version is it is big enough to really tighten down the strap. The lighter buckle that I like has the holes to put a pin in to keep it from opening, but I don't think I will even bother. I will have to test it out more in a tree, but the only way I can see it opening after it has been closed is if you were to bump it open. I am using one of the straps that came with the ameristep steps. I just took 4 off of their straps and put them on the strap of the 5th. It works right now because it already has the hook on it. Eventually I'll take a look at a new strap as well, strapworks probably has something that will work. I'm still rolling some ideas around in my head so we can move on from using the ameristeps but nothing is panning out yet. They seem to be going for about 20 bucks a step. If you only need 3 you might want to pick them up while we can still find them, I assume they are going to get harder and harder to find at some point.

Update.
The overcenter buckle is working like a champ. Using 5 ameristeps with it and just stealth stripped it today. Its actually super quiet regardless. Once I crank it down I just seat the steps. It helps if you set it a little higher than normal and once you seat the steps its perfect. Ive hunted some wacked out trees so far and its the ticket. I cant see a case of it opening by itself if you place the buckle on the outside of the tree. Definately a winner

Awesome! Glad it's working for you! :D

Do you think that Cranford Rope steps would mount OK on that strap?
Already have a set of 4....

Looks like it will cost over $18.00 to ship this $4.00 buckle to Virginia. Are there any other alternative companies out there ?

Sure. I used those all last season on a ratchet strap. I modified mine by heating the open loop and bending it closed then welding them shut. Only draw back heavy and noisy. Buthey are super solid and they don't slip on the tree as much as ameristeps.

I found some Ameristeps for sale so I ordered them (4).
Will be THRILLED to have a setup like what is shown in the video.

I haven't found too many alternatives similar to that buckle.. I ended up ordering a few to make it worth shipping because the shipping didn't go up incrementally.

I know that the shipping price sucked and I don't know why. If you find a cheaper alternative post it up and I'll let you know if I think it will work. The other buckle from US cargo control is awesome too but it is much heavier and bulkier.

Like Bigburner said they will work. I have fooled around with them and I don't think they are ideal though. The ameristep strap ons work the best.

The set up is pretty easy, you are going to have to take some straps apart to get your steps off and then put them all on 1 strap. The over-center buckle is a little confusing if you don't have a visual to follow... so follow the picture at this link http://www.allweb.be/catalogus/ocb/ocb_06.jpg. Let me know if you need any help.

Ah!
Got it.
I also didn't realize that the Ameristep strap had a hook on it.

I just rigged up the buckle with a strap with my Cranfords on it.
Just tied the strap on where the buckle would be.
Strap gets real tight pretty easily and will be MUCH easier when rigged correctly with the hook.

Every time that I take the buckle off I follow the picture to make sure I put it back on right lol..

I got my steps and my buckle.
Cut off the steps from the worst looking straps.
Mounted all 4 (I need 1 or 20 more don't I??) onto one of the straps.

WORKS. Nice.
Stealth Strip up next.

Does it seem to stabilize quicker/better if you mount the Strap and Hook in line with each other at the bottom end of the Buckle?

I have found that 5 on a strap is the optimal number for me.

I haven't noticed if it stabilizes better when hooked inline at the bottom, I will try it out next time but I haven't had any problems with stability. Make sure you pull the tag end coming out of the buckle as hard as you can while strapping it down.

When you stealth strip it, do not put any strips on surfaces that the strap comes in contact with, that will prevent the strap from sliding. I learnt that the hard way..
