New to this and just getting started. What are your recommendations for a light weight backpack to carry a single muddy stick and a tethrd platform and a few other essentials? I have a badlands 2200 pack but looking for something lightweight for early season.

For that - I would highly recommend Kathy Kelly Fleece daypack or the fleece pack by Day one. It is what I use with my platform and 3 sticks (I have a video showing how I attach the sticks)

I absolutely love my badlands 2200. It is comfortable no matter how heavy I load it.

How much cold weather gear do you carry? What are your other necessities?

I imagine he's wanting to lighten his load so he can cover more ground easier. That's why I'm looking to Cain's one stick method.

thanks man! First time seeing that. Looks like may be more of a challenge going up or down in the dark but definitely a solid method with some practice

For the early season I don’t carry too much. Water a cpl snacks and some other small items

I have a Day Ine Camo Feece pack in the Classifieds for sale if you are interested.

Anyone use any crossbody "sling" style packs. Looking for good options there for early season. Late season I have a good pack for extra clothing and gear, but for early season I'm looking for a good small pack. I like with Bobby uses which I think is the Crosspaq or similar version, but they seem a little pricey.

Just bought this at Walmart.

$29.99
It was a little pricey but I get one every year whether I need it or not. The buckle straps on the sides I just unbuckle slide through XOP Climber Seat snug em tight and good to go. I weighed the climber seat today 4.1 pounds that was with 2 30’ pull up ropes and the rope that ties the platform to tether. So climbing method and platform and backpack 5.2 pounds.

I use a super cheap Walmart pack for the early season. In the late season or on out of state hunts I'll use a Horn Hunter Main Beam or a Gameplan Gear crossover pack I just picked up.

Just curious, GpG crossover pack, for crossbows? How are you rigging that up?

Personally I've been running a Gameplan Gear 3 in 1 pack for a couple of years now. I really like using just the fanny pack with shoulder harness and carry spare clothes underneath in early season. Things may change a little this year, first year running a saddle, will be carrying sticks in.

I ordered this one yesterday. Think it’s a badlands monster fannypack rip off

I like me some fanny pack, but I've never understood adding shoulder straps to one. At that point, you just have a kind of crappy backpack. Unless I'm missing something?

I love my Kifaru Tailgunner, but I also have been running it beltless. Great for scouting or 3D, esp in the summer as your back doesn't get as sweaty. Also, they feel much less restrictive with movement than a backpack.

I run a Kifaru frame packs when I need to carry my hunting stuff - a 24" with a woodsman last year, and a 22" with a 22mag this year. They are not cheap, but worth it for sure.
