I had asked a question on here a little over a week ago when I went to one of the locations that is what I considered to be infested with chiggers and ticks. I think I may have even mentioned that a year prior, in the spring my wife and I was hiking in the same area, taking photos, we came across a fawn, that I thought had its eye poked out and or damaged in some fashion, I do have pic of it, we blew the photos up on the big screen when we go home, and its eye was swollen shut with tons of ticks on its eye lid etc. That same weekend, the wife and I pulled over 50 some odd ticks off each of us and had numerous chigger bites. Now back up to roughly a week ago on a finally scouting prior to season, I got eat up with ticks and chiggers again. Over 50 some odd bites from head to toe., I then asked for advice on here.
After reading all the advice from many on here, I purchased some sawyers and some martins. I treated my clothes. Went out yesterday for one more final scout, sit and glass style on a ridge a pretty good ways aways, I treated my socks, tank top, long camo sleeve shirt, blue jeans and boots,. Got home from scouting yesterday and not one single tick or chigger, waking up this morning, not one single chigger or tick on me. I am sure like anything in life there is a calculated risk, just like with most meds, sometimes the cure may be worse than the aliment, but with the wife and my dad both having tick issues, from limes disease and rocky mounted spotted fever, whatever risk could be associated with the sawyers or martins to me is less than what the ticks my give you and or a solid week of chigger itches. (Last fall my wife got bite by one of the seed ticks and she got sick for about 2 weeks, doctors tested her and said it wasn't limes disease, or rocky mountain spotted fever, the doctor went onto say they can only test for a few tick related sicknesses and there are way more out there than what the medical technology can actually test for)
I will follow up with this and not sure if anyone else has experienced this or not, so we shall see if anyone reply, But it did start raining on me yesterday while I was out. When I walked through some water about knee high, I could smell a faint smell of the chemicals in the sawyers almost like it smells when applying it. So not sure it if reactivates when wet, or if I just have a sensitive nose., or if it was just coincidence. But I could smell it when it was soaking wet, the smell went away or I got used to it, so not sure which. it was light,. I will also say, i treated the clothes last Friday, hung them up to dry, they were completely dry by the time I used them. I will be adding a short video of this and how well it worked for me. I hope you get the answers you need and keep us posted on what you decide. Excellent question, and have a blessed hunting season my friend.
