You can spend as much as you want. However take it from the guy who has spend hundreds of dollars on a single pipes multiple times. Briar ain’t that good and expensive, meerschaum is fragile and expensive, and a cob is both good and not fragile.LOL, one saddle (heck, a fleece blanket and some cord!), one climbing method, one platform, one set of ropes...
I may or may not have a package arriving Friday with 3 pipes and half a dozen or so mixtures as a 'starter-pack' to sample...so I can't even pretend that one is realistic. However a midgrade MM cob and a tin of good tobacco are the price of 2-3 "decent" cigars and I should easily outlast those cigars.
Clearly you can spend as much or as little as you want on pipes. But if you buy an inexpensive option and would otherwise be smoking a cigar, it pays for itself in like 3 bowls!
Good picks. I see you have an amazing selection. Escudo is another fav of mine as is 965. Well done sir. Let me know what you think of the Maltese (I really like it), welcome the land of Balkan blends.View attachment 54438
UOS surepost came early.

Please never use a torch. You will kill a pipe that way. Soft flame butane only. Yes BICs use butane and definitely can be used for pipe. Though matches are preferable.

When I was using a climber yes. Not in a nylon hammock. Major fire hazard lol.Have you gotten to try any of the new stuff yet? Curious how it was going. I’ve only smoked my pipes twice so far and haven’t gotten the hang of it yet. I’m using the Autumn Evening and I forgot to let it sit out for 30 minutes or so before smoking so maybe that’s part of the reason I kept having to relight. I went back and watched some more muttnchop videos last night for a refresher.
Do any of y’all smoke in the stand? It’s probably too much movement for me right now but deer might like the smell of maple pancakes or plum pudding lol.

Could be the lack of sitting out. Could be the pack job. Everything hinges on the pack and the tamp.Have you gotten to try any of the new stuff yet? Curious how it was going. I did two weekends ago. Does came out into this field at 260yds and didn't seem to be botherd by it. They worked their way toward me but then got spooked by something lower in the field and took to the woods at about 80yds from me.Do any of y’all smoke in the stand? I also have a post about that on this thread somewhere. That’s what I went back and watched. I couldn’t remember exact how much and how hard to pack and tamp. I’m going to give it another try and see how it goes.

It's been hit and miss, and this is largely down to moisture/pack/tamp. I've had the same tobacco be easily my favorite - delicious, easy to keep burning and keep in the optimal temp range for flavor, etc. - one pipe, but underwhelm, not stay lit, alternate between too-hot and going out, etc. the next.Have you gotten to try any of the new stuff yet?
