Planted pines hunting

Well as time had moved on I'm really struggling with this property. Other hunters walking and driving all over is making it very difficult. If anyone wants to point me to a spot or spots they'd try for the rut I'm all ears.

If there are other people all over it, find the thickest stuff on the property and get in the middle of it. If there are still bucks on the property that is where they will be. You might want to hunt the edges first, but eventually I'd take the deer trails into the thick stuff and give it a shot.

The thickest stuff that no one goes into is the swamp. I snuck to the backside yesterday to try to get a feel for it without trampling all over. There is heavy sign leading into it but I'm afraid to go marching in without a plan.

One of my other issues is on the run and gun going in blind. Finding the sign is the easy part. With it being open from a canopy standpoint any trees that exist have tons of low hanging branches so getting up then with sticks is difficult. Once up them any shooting lanes are riddled with arrow grabbing brush, branches and weeds. The same problem exists on most thick areas. What do you guys do when run and gunning the thick stuff? Back out to the first opening that you can get shots with a bow through? Hope for the best and just hunt it?

If I had it all scouted I'd have shooting lanes cut in and trees prepped.

I agree with you that I like to have spots in the thick stuff prepped with shooting lanes. But if I go in without that, I will look for a spot with trails where it opens up more than the rest. There are usually smaller openings in the thick stuff. You have to remember than going in run and gun nothing is going to be perfect. You have to set lower standards for your set up in a trade off for the surprise factor. I will often set up lower than I prefer in order to be able to shoot. Sometimes you may only have a small gap to shoot in between bushes. You have to make the most of the opportunities that you are given.

Thanks red. I think the learning curve of the run and gun is much harder than learning the saddle.
