Platforms and COLD FEET

I’ve found the only thing to help my feet are the arctic shield boot covers, amazing to say the least. Keeping extremities warm is a constant uphill battle for me, I’m skinny, I’m anemic and have renauds so it’s never a matter of if it’s when. But yeah the Arctic shields are the bees knees. As far as the platform itself I’d imagine anything that wraps the metal so it’s not just exposed would help in any regards.

Back when I used a ladder stand, I put carpet down on the platform. But for mobile purposes what’s worked for me is cutting a wool sock down, and slipping it over the toe of my boot, and throwing a heat pad in it. 99% less bulky and 100% quieter than the arctic shield boot covers.

I use the foot warmer inserts that stick to the bottom of my socks then put a toe warmer on top of my toes stuck to my sock. Works great for me with uninsulated boots on at 40 or above temps, when it gets in the low 30's I go to my insulated boots with same warmers. I always wear 95% wool socks when temps get below 50.

Yes sir I have a pair of Artic Shields and use them on a tree stand. I’m not sure how well I’ll do trying to put them on while standing on a platform?

I wrap the platform with paracord. It’s not a 100% solution, but it’s noticeably better than having nothing on the platform. I also use electric socks that have a Bluetooth app, so I can easily turn them off and on.

Mike
I’ve thought about that but wasn’t sure how slippery it would be?

The same as if you were in a climber, standing on 1 leg is standing on one leg right? Lol but seriously I see no difference in putting them on.

I used to put a piece of 1/4" plywood down to stand on, while I was ice fishing and it made all the difference in keeping my feet warm. :) I imagine using a rope wrap on the platform would do the same thing....and make it quieter too.
I did a rope wrap on a Hawk platform, because it was too slippery and it was quieter too. At the time I never gave a thought to the insulation properties, but I suppose it would work. I may do a rope wrap on my new Trophy Ridge Mission platform....I don't use the Hawk any more (too small).

I second the arctic shields. They wrok great for me and now I don't have to walk in with insulated boots anymore, getting my feet sweaty. Getting them on in a saddle is a little more tricky than a tree stand but it's totally doable and gets easier with practice.

Another concern I have for wrapping the platform or covering it with carpet or something is odor. I absolutely play the wind as much as possible but in Southeast Ohio the thermals change and the woods and hills cause the winds to swirl so bad I also do everything I can to eliminate foreign odor.

summit used to sell what they called a chill pad that you cut to fit on platform.. it worked extremely well but im sure any type of mat would.
