This one was pretty much a runaway train...

I am wondering, for folks who hated knee pads, did you use cheaper models? Or higher quality like Arc'teryx?

Not that you have to spend the most amount of money, but for those who don't like them, what do you use?

For those who do like them, what do you use?

Just curious...
 
I like knee pads cuz they serve double duty. Of course against the tree, but also there is NEVER a time when I don't end up having to crawl through some thick stuff and the knee pads just save my 40 year old knee caps. I just got new knee pads with an easy hook attachment loop and wide straps way more comfy than older ones I had and a must for my 2 bad knees.

I didn't necessarily hate knee pads. I just didn't like the constriction of the straps around my knees. Not sure why, just not a fan. I did not try Arc'teryx. But since trying a tree pad, I don't see me spending the money.
 
Good idea but no Amazon 11.99 I think, Honeybull brand . Plain blk. But really well made to my surprise. I'm not small but from years of injuries my knees really aren't small, the straps fit well. It started out with 4 yrs of high school on crutches weeks at a time. Coaches having to cut my knee pads off, then first semester of college. Warn your kids about soccer(goalie). Went down hill from there..lol
I digress, tried them out with my full weight around the living room.. Oh boy need to move the furniture more while vacuuming. I think I lost a dog under the buffet, anyways that would NEVER been possible without them.
 
I have Arcteryx LEAF knee pads. They are so light and comfy that I forget I have them on. They run around $60 so far from the cheapest option.
 
Been hunting without knee pads. Thought why another piece of gear. Tried a DIY knee pad Sat. I discovered I could get more comfortable and therefore not move so much. I will be in the market for kneepads.
 
I cut a thermarest pad to fit the profile of my small badlands pack. It seems to work fine and I am comfortable sitting with knees against the tree. Haven't tried knee pads yet.
 
So I previously voted tree pad as that is what I used last year. Switched to Trophyline knee pads this year and sticking with that now. I have no problem walking in the knee pads and don't really notice them there. While I'm in the tree I don't have to hit the tree pad, I can put my knees wherever I need.
 
I have spent so much money trying to find knee pads that work for me. I have the Arcteryx, Trolhyline, several from Lowe’s. They all either cut off my circulation or won’t stay in place. $2 pad from foam and fabric strapped to the tree is what I keep going back to. I’m still not thrilled with it, though. I need to see some pad pockets in to a pair of pants and see if that is acceptable

I was recently thinking the same. If I have a sweater in my bag and position it right in front of me I could use it to rest my knees against.

I was up a smallish tree and the wind picked up. I decided to hang straight down and put my knees on each side of the tree. I wrapped my arms around and held my wrists. Actually almost dozed off to the swaying of the tree!

I was thinking the same. It’s nice to kneel on wet ground to go into a bag etc when wearing them.
