Post your hunting rappelling gear and rough cost

I'm completely comfortable with 3,100lbf of the Dyneema, that kind of strength will take a 14 foot fall for a 200lb man. The reason for the 10mm on the linesman belt is because of the recommended minimum diameter on the Ropeman.

I'm pretty sure all the resistance settings of the Piranha will make it so I can just barely creep down the tree. I can definitely see the issue of smaller rope with devices requiring a specific size, but the Piranha doesn't operate that way.

What safety issues arise from a thinner rope, assuming working load strength is adequate?

How about a thinner sheath and core. Titan line is accessory cord. It's meant to be used as a sling not for high abrasion applications. Go ahead and nick that with one of your broadheads while trying to move into position for a offside shot on accident. This go lighter faster mentality at some point needs to give way to reason.

I had not thought about nicking, that's a very good point.

When I first started saddle hunting I use to use that PMI e-z bend static for my tether. I had got into this tree with a down angled branch about 1" thick and every time I would move that damn branch would get to bouncing like nobody's business. So after about ten minutes I had had enough and I got my saw toothed knife out and started sawing the SOB off.(this is my mindset at that moment) While sawing through the branch my knife slipped. Before I could stop my hand the blade smacked right into my tether cutting about 1/8" in. Man my heart stopped beating for what seemed like forever as I waited for the inevitable rush of wind and impact that was sure to come. After grabing the tree as quick as I could without jerking the tether or making any suddon moves. I gathered my wits and switched out my tether for my linemans belt and hung off my lineman's belt for the rest of my hunt thanking God for the multiple times he'd spared my life since my birth.
I'm not trying to sound like a jerk when I get frustated with all this small diameter rope junk due to my past experience. I'm just trying to look out for you guys. That's just the way I am.

Stay safe.

No, it's a very good point I had looked right over.

Hey guys. Can we move the rope thickness discussion to another thread and get back on the topic of posting your rappelling gear and estimated cost?
The rope discussion is important, just not what I was looking for from this thread.
Glad you made it down ok DIYSaddler.

I am using this EXACT equipment/setup.

Rock Exotica Mini 8 Descender:

Rock Exotica Carabiner:

Camp Delta Screw Link:

Samson 8mm Ultratech (7800 lb strength) with 1 spliced/sewn eye (35 ft):

Samson zing it throw line for rope retrieval (35 feet)

Here are two videos on how to use the setup. Video 1 shows descending. Video 2 shows locking it off in order to retrieve your platform.

When you are ready to rappel down, run your Ultratech 35' rope around the tree through the Delta Screw Link. Attach your descender/carabiner to your rope and then to your Saddle. Attach your Zing it to the Delta Screw link and keep it separate from your rappel line. Rapell down far enough to remove your platform. Lock off your mini 8 decender. Remove your platform and continue your rappel down the tree. When you get to the bottom, pull the yellow Zing It line (that you attached to the Delta Screw Link) to retrieve your rope. It's actually pretty simple.
