I was just looking at some of my son's linesman gear and saw this beauty. It is called a non-conductive nylon hand-line belt hook or breakaway hook and only costs $2.50. The bottom is open so it can slip over saddle webbing. Will be trying a few to hold sticks, stepps, Predator...

I like the look of this. I think I would trim it down a little so it was closer to a “J”. Doesn’t look like it weighs much at all.
 
Very lightweight, but sturdy enough for our uses. I will have some by next Friday to experiment with.
