Can someone point me to a good video for the best way to preset for SRT later on? I've been searching unsuccessfully. I don't want to go through unnecessary trial and error if I don't have to.

Thanks

No video that I know of. It's pretty simple though, sling a throw line over a limb at the height you want to hunt at and use the throw line to pull over a piece of paracord or a piece of utility line. Once the paracord is over the limb and touching the ground, grab both tag ends and secure it around the base of the tree or anchor it to the ground.

I'm trying to think of the small things. I assume you just make a loop out of paracord but small things like how to get the tag in of the climb rope to pull up and then through the figure8 loop so you don't need twice the length of climb rope to the height you are going to hunt. Stuff like that. I have a one year old at home so my experiment time is very low to try to figure out the small things.
My current plan is to initially climb with sticks or maybe even one stick but leave a preset for the next sit (might end up with paracord everywhere...haha)

Ok so picture you walking up to a pre set tree.....you already have 550 cord or throw line ran up the tree, over a branch at hunting height, and back down to the base of the tree. Now say you have 30 feet of rope but your hunting height is 25 feet. What your going to do is tie the tag end of your climbing rope to one of the ends of the pre set 550 cord. Once secured, pull on the other piece of 550 cord that is secured to the tree and begin pulling your climbing rope up the tree. Before your figure eight gets out of reach, put the end of 550 that you are pulling in through the girth hitch and continue to pull. Now your girth hitched rope travels up the tree until it is securely hitched at hunting height. That's how you get away with carrying half the rope you actually need. One good practice is to secure a carabiner and recovery line to the girth hitch before pulling the rope up just in case something gets snagged and you can pull it back down if you have to. Hope that didn't come out as confusing as I think it did.....

Thanks. That was helpful. I was trying to figure out (without being at a tree) how to have the paracord tied in a loop so it just pulls in a circle up and around the tree but couldn't figure it out. Having the paracord not tied in a loop makes sense to get it through the figure8.

That is exactly how I do it.... I don't use a screw link in my climbing rope just a figure 8 on a bite...but everything else works perfectly for me, I guess he is the one who showed me how to use the paracord for removal as my pull up for my bow too! Very important to include that removal line in case you decide not to climb it and you want to remove it.

I use a chalk box with a 10 oz throw bag. toss over branch about 3 ft from trunk 15 to 20 ft high. throw bag comes down then i tie lifeline on the 1.7 mm zingit line that I retrofitted in chalk box then with a clove or anchor hitch attach to my 30 ft lifeline then tie and confirm a running alpine butterfly and pull up the rope. Then attach my Inch Worm SRT climber and climb. then I attach my platform on the way up, then inch worm up and buck in to the spar. finally set the tether if needed. To get down you can belay on a prussik , a munter hitch, fig 8 or use a belay device. grabbing your platform on the way down. If you want a pre set just add para cord to alpine loop 2x as long so when you take your rope you install the para cord back in the tree. be sure to tie it off or I like to hook it into bark. This keeps it from blowing in wind and finding your preset 10 ft off ground. Go back to camp fry up some tendies and onion sharpen a few blades and practice knots. The knots are alpine butterfly, running alpine butterfly, anchor hitch munter hitch and other prussiks.
hope that helps
