Right spot...Right time..

I killed one in less than a minute of sitting down several years ago. I killed a great Fl buck this year about 20 minutes after climbing up. Was using a climber so I haven’t posted here

I have killed 5-6 less than 10 minutes in the stand and have been caught half way up a few times as well. I definitely think they walking in the leaves sound is an attractant at times.

I have had deer around me multiple times while I'm 1/2 way up a tree. Usually in the rut time frame. I believe they hear me walk in and have to come and investigate. I make it a point to get up the tree as fast and as quietly as I can and have an arrow nocked asap before I make any other adjustments or fully set up in the tree. I have killed 2 deer that I can remember having to pull my bow rope up either quickly before they got into range or literally wait to they turn their head or walk behind a tree to try to get the bow off the ground. I find myself setting my daisy chain and pulling up my bow before I even set my platform. I don't encourage anyone to rush and have an accident but that's where all the off season practice comes in. Build that muscle memory in the off-season.

Killed a 135” wma buck at 3:30 pm back in 2019. I had just sat down in my climber and was ranging different reference points when he came running in. I hadn’t been in the stand 5 minutes. It was an area I had scouted before bow season, but the area looked a lot different in December. Discouraged that I was just gonna have to wing it and making more noise walking around than I typically do- I picked out a pine/hardwood transition that had a giant boulder 40-50yds to my right that might funnel a deer within range. Welp, guess if you hunt long enough you finally guess right. I’ve hunted 20 plus years and having that happen on a WMA was awesome. The odds of something like that happening……My daughter was 2 at the time so that was the only hunt I’d been on all year. Happened so fast I didn’t know anything other than he was a mature buck. Didn’t have any time to eyeball his antlers. I have to imagine he thought the coast was clear with gun season over, but he was wrong! :)
