Right spot...Right time..

Im curious how many of you guys have gotten a deer moments after getting to your stand. The type of timing that stopping 5min for a coffee would mean missing the deer walking by?
If you hunt long enough s##t happens. I once was pulling my bow up, a recurve at the time when a spike came walking in. I stopped pulling the bow up which was 4 ft off the ground. Little guy tapped it with his spike as he casually walked by as it was swinging and kept on walking away like nothing happened! No respect.

Ill know the full dress weight later today. But the butcher i took it to said it was the largest 8pt he had seen this season.
Great buck! Ive never been lucky enough to kill one that close after setting up. But ive definitely witnessed some awesome chases either on my way to get set up or while setting up. These were at 12-1 pm. If I had gotten in even minutes later I would have never knew!

It's not happened to me in a tree yet, but last week I killed one within 5 minutes of stepping foot on a new property for the first time. Was getting ready in the parking lot and watched him cross the road, grabbed my bow and binos and ran after him. 5 minutes and 2 loud deep challenging grunts later and I was standing over him.

These are great stories. All the time and effort we put in to scouting, setup, scent, etc, and it mostly comes down to luck lol
But as a wise man once said: "I'd rather be lucky than good"

Last weekend I had a deer in the parking lot when I pulled in, staring right at my headlights for a minute or so. I was not as fortunate as you, since it was before legal shooting time, and it took off onto private land.

My fastest kill was 3 minutes. Muzzleloader was still hanging from the rope when I saw some does coming in. It was a mad scramble to get it pulled up and cap on it in time.

I would say from the time i heard the buck, to getting my bow up and taking the shot was no more than a minute. I have the nearby does to thank for keeping him more interested in them than what i was doing.

I havent harvested one this way, but have had a few times where deer came in while i was mid climb...if it was rifle season and i was able to hoist it up quick enough, those hunts would have been over before they started.

Did you stop for a coffee? Maybe chat with your buddy for a couple mins before heading in?

nah lol, each time was an evening sit and got in woods around 2ish. Usually just does moving around...guessing if i setup earlier i may have gotten them. No telling if they would have come into bow range if i was setup earlier...

My lifetime #2 opportunity I was only 2 sticks up, bow on the ground, buck slowly walked by at 7 yards.

Yesterday in PA buddy was 2 sticks up after lunch and had a shooter come right to the opposite side of his tree, couple yards away.

I wonder in mid November if our leaf crunching is a bit of a deer call.

I killed a buck a few years ago as I was pulling my card next to the tree I was going to climb.

For me it’s always been getting down too early on morning sits. Had one of the biggest buck I’ve seen in person come in while I was packing up the summit years ago. Same thing I swear he heard it and thought it was another buck making a rub. It was somewhere around the first week of November.

Can’t think of a time in the afternoon I set up and was done in 5-10 min
I've had one come in to the sound of the summit also. Another time there was snow on the ground during MZ season and I was about half way up and saw some deer walking about 250 yards away so I climbed back down and put the sneak on to take a doe.
