Killed a 135” wma buck at 3:30 pm back in 2019. I had just sat down in my climber and was ranging different reference points when he came running in. I hadn’t been in the stand 5 minutes. It was an area I had scouted before bow season, but the area looked a lot different in December. Discouraged that I was just gonna have to wing it and making more noise walking around than I typically do- I picked out a pine/hardwood transition that had a giant boulder 40-50yds to my right that might funnel a deer within range. Welp, guess if you hunt long enough you finally guess right. I’ve hunted 20 plus years and having that happen on a WMA was awesome. The odds of something like that happening……My daughter was 2 at the time so that was the only hunt I’d been on all year. Happened so fast I didn’t know anything other than he was a mature buck. Didn’t have any time to eyeball his antlers. I have to imagine he thought the coast was clear with gun season over, but he was wrong!
