Haven't used the rope mod before so I'm fooling around with it and have a question. How important is it that the rope really cinches behind the versa button before you do the half hitch? I am testing it out with this notch dryad that I bought from treestuff which I really like. It will hold it loosely before the half hitch is in but it doesn't pinch down tight like it would with the climbing rope. Putting the half hitch on there really ensures it is not going anywhere and testing it out in the backyard it holds really tight. Just looking for some input. Thanks!
Some info on the notch dryad:
  • High strength dynamic cabling
  • 24 Strand hollow braid polyester rope without a core
  • Flatness of rope keeps it from biting into a tree
  • Easy to splice
  • Superb knot holding ability
  • Lighter and easier to use than steel support lines
  • Abrasion resistant
  • Low stretch

Ever consider cutting down the shoulder of Versa button so it will perform as it is designed? Along with the half hitch. I️ gave up on rope mod really quick.

I didn't try that with this, but I have cut down versa buttons before and i wasn't really happy with them. And I don't think it will help it pinch it much because the hollow braid lays flat.

I guess my question is does it really matter if the rope pinches?? If you come around the button and tie 2 half hitches, the stick isn't going to go anywhere. I'm just looking for some input from anyone with thoughts or experience.

I dont think it will matter once it is hitched. Was not trying to steal the thread, just curious if you have tried to shorten them down. I think you are safe, especially since I am sure you have checked it at ground level.

I think the idea of the rope pinching just happen to be a byproduct of using a rope size that was of adequate strength and also heavy enough to toss around the tree. I am only making an assumption here, but rope system started with the Muddy Pro's I believe. They were already using that size rope for safelines and linemans ropes they were selling. So what's better from a manufacturing standpoint, order a couple different sizes of rope, or all one size...........That's just my 2 cents....could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time in the last hour.

I could. Do you think it matters once the half hitches are in there?

Probably not much but it couldnt hurt. You really are only stepping for a moment and its not like your bouncing on it. If anything happens you will probably feel it loosen as opposed to a clean break

I think the main benefit to the rope fitting tight is it doesn’t tighten down the half hitch. Would make the knot easier to untie. Is that rope easy to untie?

I was thinking the same thing. I use a 9mm static rope and it tightens up behind the versa button on my Lone Wolf sticks. I could bounce in it that way but always tie a couple of half hitches. Going tight around the versa button seems to help reduce the amount of slippage down the tree when stepping on the stick to set it.

Yes it’s pretty easy to untie. You can tell it tightens down but it’s not hard to untie.
