Just curious if anyone uses any type of a rope climbing system for saddle hunting? Either in conjunction with climbing steps and/or without.
For hunting the hill country it may be less weight to carry to the tree.
Thanks all

Search for single rope technique or SRT... there are some good threads about it on here I just ordered stuff to try it myself.

I like it. Just wondering how you get your climbing rope attached up top before you climb? And vise versa when you climb back down?

I was thinking about just attaching a caribener to one end of the rope and throwing it over the next limb and attaching. But umm yeah I have no idea lol

Hopefully that link worked right but @whispersdeath has a great video on how to get your rope up and back down.

In case that link doesn't work for you:http://www.saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/climbing-rope-for-tree-access.104/#post-2117
That is the big thread. There are probably 100 other threads out there too. It is a viable option but you have to practice, practice, practice. You can hunt trees on the fly, but it is much easier if you have a tree already set up with a line to pull your climbing rope up.

That thread is a great read, but I can't bring myself to buy all the gear for SRT. I picked up some 16 strand Arbormaster to play around with using a Blakes hitch system. It definitely has potential, but I'd prolly only use it on trees pre-set like Redsquirrel mentioned. Takes me too long to get a throw line in the tree to use it for a run & gun setup.

I'm going to give it an honest try for pre sets...... some of the stuff is expensive but I've managed to find some deals......I feel like I'm in a natural saddle hunter progression I've tried sticks and Stepp's, next after srt will probably come spurs lol

There are lots of ways to get your boxes in without your spouse knowing. My personal favorite is @MCDM who had the UPS person actually put it in the garbage can for him!!

I have built relationships with my carriers over the years!! It sounds crazy but they now know no truck in the driveway throw the package in the garbage can. They also know not to put it in the recycling cause the wife will go in there!! I always try to hook them up around the holidays to say thanks for the awkward customer service request.

Hahahaha I'm going to save that jewel of info away for one day!
