For the rope man one you need 11mm Static rope , it is less damaging to this kind of rope, do not use the rope man2 on static 11mm it eats it up , there is an new 9 mm rope that works with the rope man two , it is predator rope ( I will look up the name) . guys are using the rope man two on the new rope as the rope man one doesn't work with 9mm rope. I do believe most tether rope is suggested to not be a static rope to help in fall arrest. Look into the ropes you use!
It is called Sampson predator rope it is 7/16 that is equivalent to 9mm , I have not used it but from reports of another hunter after using the rope man 2 he has had no problems with that ascender damaging that rope.

Just for clarification:

7/16 is 11.11 mmm not 9/16

Red & Ontario got me straight on this the other evening. The Sampson Predator that comes with the Kestrel is 7/16 or 11mm which is fine to use with Rooeman 1.

I'm also only seeing the predator Samson rope in 11 mm available from WesSpur.com

If it's a Samson rope in 9mm, you are likely referring to Ultratech. You may want to consider Sterling HTP as well.

Samson ultra tech comes in 9 mm or 8. We use it because it is lighter than 11 mm predator.
You are not supposed to use a ropeman 1 on rope less than 10mm.

I do use a ropeman 1 on my 9 mm ultra tech but back it up with a prussic

Ok who is using the ropeman 2 with the predator rope 11mm or the ultra tech 9mm with the ropeman 2 how is it holding up ?
If you are using the Samson predator rope in 11 mm does it tie knots better then your regular 11mm static rope ?

I would never use a ropeman 2 unless the rope was less than 10 mm. It is not necessary. I have a ropeman 2 on some 8 mm Samson ultra tech and it stills tears the rope sheath if I am not careful.

A Kong or a CT roll and lock can be used with 8 mm rope too but they are not as quiet as a ropeman

With 11 mm rope use a ropeman 1.

I think I'm going to order the 11 mm predator rope it comes in camo and if it does better knots then traditional static line, I will be happy. I'm waiting to see what red squirrel posts on using the Kong asender with climbing stick before I get one of those. I have the rope man one I love it.
Honestly I forgotten where this post started but I do know guys are using the rope man 2 , with what I guess is the 9mm ultratech. I've had no problems with my rope man one it has done nothing to my static line. I have traditional static rope and making knows with it is hell , it's very stiff. I have been using a mountaineer harness as my saftey harness. My set up is half the weight now. Changing to a saddle is almost a no brainier as that will remove the treestand all together

I hope I am not confusing you but many types of static rope are fine with knots and some are not.
  1. Predator is fine with knots
  2. Ultra tech is fine with knots
  3. Amsteel is not fine with knots.
Most sites that sell rope will tell you what can be spliced or what is fine to have a knot in it.
A ropeman 1 is probably the best choice for 11 mm Samson Predator because it is quiet and safe and light.
These ascenders are not designed to take a 10 feet fall but the way we use them that should never happen.

With the lineman's belt I don't think you're going to fall 10 feet because you're keeping yourself close to the tree for the most part Red Squirrel is using the, sender as a climbing he to bring him up and down the tree further I just haven't seen the video yet have to go online on my computer in order to flip through all the comments easier it looks cool if it works it's awesome cuz you only have to carry a couple of sticks with you and you're not confusing me I use traditional climbing static rope from a local sports store here and it's just super duper to put in
