So I am looking at an RC harness and it has to have sewn gear loops I am just wondering everyone's opinion regarding strength rating on these. The one I am looking into has a rating of 8kn which is roughly 1800lbs. This is solely for linemans belt and not bridge. I was trying to find the rating of these loops for the aero but could not get ahold of Newtribe. Is that rating sufficient?

To give you an idea, in the work world, nothing life support is allowed to be under 5,000 lbf. I'm not going to trust my life to something 1/3 of that but a lot of hunters do.

Really comes down to your body weight and maximum expected fall.

The rating is already better than a lot of the tubular the webbing setups with water knots tied to the haul loop and better than the sit drag on its own.

Also note that the maximum force on many sizes of dynamic climbing ropes, prussic cords, and tubular webbing is less thab 2000 lbf.

The key to any safe climbing setup is redundancy. All my attachments fail to a backup.

Well i go about 210lbs. It basically will on serve for a linemans belt attachment. Its very similar in material that is used on the aero. If it is the same rating as that which is the question then I should be good. Of course I'd be backing up my harness when coupled with the sit drag.

If you're looking for lineman loops why don't you go with a treehopper belt? It's not perfect but I choose that over a rock climbing harness for that purpose.

I guess with eventually using the sitdrag i like the idea of a RC harness backup. If i go with the treehopper belt (which is nice) its just one more thing to add to my waist. More or less just trying to cut corners not safety. Making it streamlined I guess

I will post some pictures of my final Sit Drag setup. I bought a cobra buckle and will be using the D loops on the Sit Drag to attach two different Lineman's ropes. I added the extra to always stay connected to the tree while climbing and navigating around branches.

I'm trying to remember.. didn't you find a RC harness that had higher rated lineman loops that you are using?

The gear loops on the Metolius safe tech are 10 kN

Where is it listed on the metolius site the rating on those? To be honest I am looking at the misty mountain cadillac tactical. I know its a little expensive but its camo and looks to be made really well. Plus its used by elite military.

You have to call them for the individual ratings but its 9 kN minimum on everything.

These are the numbers you'll find published on the web on detailed reviews and retailer websites.

2250 lbf (10 kN) Spectra gear loops
3600 lbf (16 kN) Spectra rope locator
3600 lbf (16 kN) rear haul loop
1500 lbf (6.6 kN) leg loop

Buckle will hold 10 kN if rigged incorrectly, single pass with word DANGER showing.

This harness hangs well and will be my go to harness during this upcoming rock climbing season.

The Misty mountain is a great harness. I think you will be very happy. The metolius also makes a mil spec, berry compliant patriot harness. Like the misty mountain, you pay for mil spec.

I don't see how the RC would be easier or more streamlined than the Tree Hopper. Don't you have to strap an even bigger belt on with those. And add the leg straps?

I'm sure you can get many RC's that are safer than the Hopper but for simplicity it is hard to beat. But I've never used an RC harness so not sure.

You can hang with a harness(great on big trees with multiple trunks when setting steps, or single stick climbing). Its also rated as a fall device, not sure the hopper is anything more than an idea. The RC is more money, but I believe its money well spent.
