Saddle hunt exclusively?

We still have a few ladder stands and pre-hung lock-ons. We also have access to shooting houses on food plot edges. I will also do some still hunting. None of that will change, but the days of packing in a climber or lock-on for an afternoon or morning hunt are OVER.

Sometimes it is nice to just grab my gun or bow and climb up a few steps and hunt.

I’ve got a summit 180 max that needs a seat. I would sell it but a replacement seat is expensive and my son may wish to use it someday. I have a millennium stand that my son uses some now. I haven’t sat in a stand hung by myself in a few years now.

Do you have a specific reason you prefer a stand when the temps drop? Ive wondered about the saddle compressing my bibs or jacket and it not insulating as well as usual.
heat loss through convection(cold air passing by my body). I have more exposure hanging in a saddle. When sitting in a stand back is against the tree on insulating pad, butt on an insulating pad, feet flat with no pressure on gives better blood flow and ability to wiggle the piggies to keep them warm. Ability to sit and stand, shake snow off, whatever :)
Last year when I hunted out of a guidos I was TOSTY. and gun hunted all season in the extreme weather and cold, it fixed most of those issues, but I have property I can leave some stands on and it can just be a little quicker to climb presets on the trees with a RCH on, throw a tether on(same as my saddle) and hunt.

I bought a new seat for a summit ladder stand last year closeout from Amazon for like $18 shhiped at the end of the season last year. Keep your eyes out!

1. Ladder Stands and shooting houses on my private areas when hunting with my kids or taking a kid hunting. I also use my saddle set ups to keep them guessing on these properties.

2. 100% saddle on public

3. I still have two Summit Viper Climbers and some hang-ons but I do not use them much if at all anymore.

4. Ground with Ghillie anywhere it makes sense.

5. The cold makes me lazier so during gun season I'm prone to hunt from the shooting houses more but I'm sincerely trying to change that up more this year with more saddle set ups. Bulky clothes are hard to work with. I have an HBS but do not want to cut it up for the saddle.

100% saddle for 13 yrs!!! I did stand on a friends tree stand seat once for a platform. You should've seen his face when he came my way to meet up, priceless.

I don't see me hunting out of anything but a saddle for as long as I physically can. I have several preset lock on stands that stay up year round on food plots and a few 2 man ladder stands but have only left them up for the kids and wife to hunt from. I'm 100% hooked on saddles now just way more versatile and I believe that alone will allow me to put more mature bucks on the ground.

Sold all my hang ons and climbers. I still have a couple ladder stands that are preset, will hunt out of those occasionally.

I am about 50/50.I will use whatever it takes to get it done.Blinds, stands or saddle. But most of my bow hunting is done from my saddle.Dont care to gun hunt out of it

I haven’t used a treestand since opening day last season. I am keeping my lone wolf alpha just in case. I sold about a dozen Treestands.

I’m either in my saddle or on the ground. When I can be in any tree in 10 minutes it makes no sense for me to bother with the expense and safety factor of presets.

This is my first year saddle hunting. Started with a flex and after a few hunts I saw that I won’t be able to do any all day hunts in it, I was constantly fidgety and moving. So I bought a guidos web, and while it’s definitely more comfy I’m still on the fence.

The guidos web plus 4 climbing sticks weigh the same as my summit climber. Plus it’s honestly harder to setup than my summit. I’m not giving up yet, just still on the fence.
