Yes and I washed all my Cranford rope strap on steps, my Cranford scaffold steps, my 2 Mantis saddles, pouches, tether ropes, and my bow rope on Monday. While I used the washtub in my back room because I had so much crap to wash, you can use a 5 gallon bucket for just a saddle and ropes. Fill the bucket with warm to hot water and put in 2 capfuls of scent free detergent (I use Arm & Hammers hypoallergenic) and throw your stuff in the bucket. Swish it around every few hours and don't be afraid to leave it for a day or two. Dump the water out and rinse your saddle and ropes under a faucet or out in the yard with a hose for a few minutes and then hang it up outside for a few days. All my stuff is hanging on a fence right now and it was on the fence all day yesterday in a hard rain which is good. Once it's totally dry in a day or two I'll take it down and keep it in an air tight container or bag and the saddle will get rolled up and go in my backpack. I will only handle the steps with my ScentLok gloves on going forward and that includes while putting them on during a DIY hunt. I'm a scent control freak and NEVER EVER pay attention to wind direction.

@John Eberhart You have have answered this before, but how do you un-stink boots? Do I pull the liners and submerge them all in a similar bath?

Ok guys lets get back on topic, Saddle Scent Elimination. This has turned into the scent free/play the wind debate that has been beaten to death here, and everywhere else. I think the creator of this thread has a legitimate question, some good responses here also but mostly scent control debate. So back on topic boys!

If you want to put the scent away on your saddle I would spray it down put the scent away soap on it and scrub it with a brush and rinse.

As humans we can never "Eliminate" scent since we are constantly shedding and excreting oils, waxes, liquids, scents etc. The best we can do is contain and dilute predator scent to a level that does not alert prey (deer), and I believe (after reviewing the thread) the most popular ways are 1) destroying scent by washing with scent destroyer 2) adsorbing scent with activated carbon 3) and cover scents.
I use a combination of all 3 and they work quite well. When it comes to my saddle I primarily use 3 until my saddle merits the use of 1. If I am feeling lazy and in a pinch for time, I do 2.

Super easy guys. I take each of my buckles and I put them inside a sock and then I put a rubber band around the sock to hold it on the buckle that way my buckles don’t get beat up and the inside of my wife’s washer don’t get beat up take all my carabiners and my Ropemans off throw the saddle in the washer With sent free soap. And let it hang dry outside in the sun. I used to put the whole thing inside a pillowcase and wash it but I found out that this is a little bit better

I just received my savanna aero quick strike coveralls. As soon as looked at it I realized I can’t wear it in the woods till likely thanksgiving or later. We simply don’t have the luxury to be that scent free in the south. I’m wondering how soon my saddle will be sour. It will be soaked thru with sweat every time I wear it till November I assume.

I bought this and it eliminated horse odors in my wife's car. I was surprised.
I am planning on putting it in a plastic bin with all my hunting clothing.

I’d be putting horse hair in the bins, and rubbing horse crap on your boots. Deer don’t mind horses. You can’t remove all human odor so a natural cover scent is best

I have been tainted by plenty of deer who are standing with horses near my stands, like they’re using them as shields lol.

I have friends in Florida that would hunt deer with dogs from horseback, always the most successful. And am area I hunt has horse trails, those people are the best intel, they see a lot of deer in their travels and they all say the same thing, the deer don’t spook, even with a human sitting on top. It that area the horse thing is a bigger advantage because the deer are even more used to it. Pint is the same, use a cover that is natural and non threatening. Funny when guys run from a campfire in their Camo, it’s prob the best thing they could do for that camo, especially here in the south

Thanks for great info on how to wash my saddles....as far as the debate goes I hate how some of these posts get so ugly so fast...IMO use every means possible to be a ghost...I use both milkweed and scentlock technology...why wouldn't you? Milkweed is fun to watch how the thermals and topography affect the air..... I try to learn from it; why a buck hides where he does.... most of my really good trees the wind might be good for a little while but eventually it all goes to crap and then what do you do when the suns not up or down yet and your waiting on your buck to show?

My wife owns a pony and puts buckets, blankets and such in the back of the car, hence the smell.

in my skin
"Umm, My Darling... What are you doing out here? It smells awful..."
"Well I just got done washing all my gear in scent-free detergent, Ozone-ing my bow string, scrubbing with a homemade Dead Downwind-Scent Killer Gold-PhaZe combination, shaving my arm hair and eyebrows, drinking permethrin, and throwing out every piece of non-essential gear I could think of. I thought I was almost ready for opening day, but then I scanned Saddle Hunter one last time..."

If you think you are scent free that is a lie as well
I dont think anybody has the illusion that they are "scent free" even wearing scentlok. I've never heard anyone say that. The only guys who say things like that are the guys who dont wear scentlok. There is no question the stuff definitely cuts down on the odors emitted from the human body which, if it makes the deer think you're further away than what you are then it's worth it. I wear because I can afford it and I'm looking for any advantages I can get. I try to hunt the wind as well but to think the deer is always going to come up wind of you is a "lie" as well. They can come from any direction at any time so again I refer to using any advantage you can. I can tell you that I rarely get winded (not saying I havent ever) but I am a "scent freak" I try to eliminate my scent as absolutely as much as possible every time and scentlok is part of that as is the sprays, detergent the ozone generator (I made a DIY closet for about $60). Technology is our friend, especially when it comes to deer hunting imo.

I don't know about other manufacturers but Tethrd has tested theirs with ozone and did not notice any degradation.
I believe you only have to worry about is rubber. I built an ozone closet with a generator I bought off Ebay (looked like the ones you see in hotel rooms) and none of my gear was worse for wear. I used it religiously before hunts while I showered and after hunts when I got back.
