Scent Loc will kill you in Texas early season!

Beware!

I just wore a complete new "early season" Scent Loc suit to make my first hunt of the year. I seriously thought I was going to pass out.

I like the hot weather much better than I do cold weather. I will go out in the peak of the summer and do pretty much anything in the heat. I'm not one of those people who doesn't handle the heat well. This afternoon I really thought I had been completely dehydrated. My entire suit was completely wet like it had been dunked under water. I honestly don't think it's possible to stop my scent from being broadcast when sweat is literally pouring out.

This thing is like wearing a 1980's polyester sweat suit. I will not be wearing this suit again until the temps are below 70 degrees.

I have found the layer of activated carbon makes the garments much less breathable than comparable garments that don’t. Scentlok does make lightweight gear but I have wore it in 70-80 degree weather and sweated my a** off. You may want to consider not putting it on until you are at your stand, if that’s possible.

This is their "Early Season" stuff. If the make something lighter I sure wish I had known before I bought this.

We had some 75 degree days here and it was like being in a savanah. Or sauna. Scent lok was hot even in Ontario

75 is a cold front here. I sat in a box blind yesterday evening with a high of 92. The inside of that box felt like a pressure cooker. I had 2 large gatorades in 3 hours and still came out dehydrated.

Yeah I have a set of the coveralls that fold in on themselves but I am definitely not wearing them in The Sip heat until it cools off a bit.

I've been wearing mine. I have had several of those "this is supposed to be fun" moments. My phone got wet. My pocket knives are rusting. I just don't know how effective it is when the exterior side is wet from sweat.

It isn’t.
I don’t even try with scent control because most of my season is 80 degrees plus...

I have wondered what sweat soaking through activated carbon does. Does it come out the other side purified water?
Can't imagine wearing it and doing much good til it cools down here.
Heard John Eberhart say in a podcast he uses wipes to clean up his sweat.... Some of these early season days it would take a lot of wipes.... :)
Not Trying to knock scent loc but have wondered how it works out for early season..

I'm guessing if you're hunting in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota you probably don't have this problem.

If I had only been sweating on my face I can imagine using wipes but I would have had to have had a case of wipes for this.

I honestly feel like it is impossible down here. I can sweat through a wool “early season” layer in about 10 minutes here. I sweat like football 2-A-Days in regular layers... not including carbon layers...

Look anyone who knows me well knows I pretty much don't sweat. I can go out in 90 degree temps and plant food plots, cut through brush and climb trees and hardly sweat, but this was unbelievable. It was like I had walked into a wet sauna and tried to work. It isn't possible.

I'm really hoping someone who's getting ready to try this down here reads this thread and totally avoids making this mistake. It literally could kill someone.

Do as I do here in MI when the season opens GO NAKED under your scent blocker clothing. No t-shirt no pants or shorts just light weight underroos or none if your me!. You have clothing on so they can't get you for indecent exposure.

This is basically what I do. I strip to gym shorts in the woods then put on my Savanah coveralls, I hunted when it was high 70's, low 80'a and it wasn't bad.

OK mini lesson from the guy that teaches health/PE. Their are three major warm zones on your body: armpits, back of the knees and the groin. By limiting the clothing in those locations it will help you stay cooler. Also if you take the time to get into shape at the start of spring all the way through your states hunting season your body will regulate to the temps at ton easier. So my suggestion is simple exercise regularly, stay hydrated even on stand your urine is all ammonia based deer smell it all the time so pee if you need to, and drop the shorts or go "buck naked". The less clothing you have on the easier it is to stay cool. When I get out of my truck the first thing I do is lose the clothing that will cause me to sweat on the walk to my stand or while on stand. You can always pack clothing in but taking it off while in a saddle is a pain in the human tail.
