Scent Loc will kill you in Texas early season!

I must have missed this. You guys are wearing stuff under your scentlok in early season?

Not me!! Boxers!!! Socks!!! I couldn’t imagine having on another layer!!

That's why I'm asking. I'm not in the south but I hunt a lot in the 80s in the early season. I don't wear anything but the lightest scentlok layers. I do sweat at this time of year but I rotate through my scentlok and wash it. I buy the light layers on sales after the season and update them every season or 2.

I wear a lightweight merino or scentlok top and undies in the early season if temps are 60F+.

Like I said the scentlok just doesn’t breath all that well. You will get warmer and sweatier quicker.

I have a two piece lightweight scentlok suit and wear the bottoms and a lightweight wicking baselayer on my walk in and bring my leightweight jacket on my pack or lashed to my sticks. I put the jacket on after 10-15 minutes at my tree or on stand.

I will say putting a garment on over the kestrel is easy peasy.

Do as I do here in MI when the season opens GO NAKED under your scent blocker clothing. No t-shirt no pants or shorts just light weight underroos or none if your me!. You have clothing on so they can't get you for indecent exposure.

I’ve heard of guys going in just their boxers/briefs under their leafy suits. It sure is tempting on those 95° days!

This is basically what I do. I strip to gym shorts in the woods then put on my Savanah coveralls, I hunted when it was high 70's, low 80'a and it wasn't bad.

OK mini lesson from the guy that teaches health/PE. Their are three major warm zones on your body: armpits, back of the knees and the groin. By limiting the clothing in those locations it will help you stay cooler. Also if you take the time to get into shape at the start of spring all the way through your states hunting season your body will regulate to the temps at ton easier. So my suggestion is simple exercise regularly, stay hydrated even on stand your urine is all ammonia based deer smell it all the time so pee if you need to, and drop the shorts or go "buck naked". The less clothing you have on the easier it is to stay cool. When I get out of my truck the first thing I do is lose the clothing that will cause me to sweat on the walk to my stand or while on stand. You can always pack clothing in but taking it off while in a saddle is a pain in the human tail.

Guys thanks for the comments but I'm trying to make sure that anyone thinking of trying this down here in the south doesn't get heat stroke from it.

I only wore very light breathable underwear and a very light T-shirt under the Scent Lok. There is no way taking those two off was going to make any difference at all. These suits are obviously made not to breath. So no air gets in and no air gets out. You are literally wearing a sweat suit.

I have been a personal trainer for over 25 years. I am very fit, very strong, very agile, of high endurance and extremely acclimated to hot weather. I literally can go out and run or cycle in 100 degree temps for well over an hour and feel just fine. This suite is a heat box, stopping any heat from escaping your body.

By the way the temps here have been in the 80's and 90's, not the 70's or 80's, 100 percent humidity and no wind. This is not survivable in Scent Lok. So don't try it under these conditions.

I don't want to be a Debby downer but I can't get it. Scent control is super important. Others factors play as well. I've never felt as if I'd get an advantage by bottling up my odor. You aren't going to eliminate it no matter how good you are.

I have huge respect for a lot of those that swear by it, but honestly, I think just the flat out attention to detail has faaaar more to do with it. Problem is, we'll never know if they would've killed those deer without it.

I don't disagree with this at all. I just decided I wanted to try it to do the best I could on my part. I just wish I had known in advance that it wouldn't be wearable until January.

I had the same problem with the heavier stuff. I’m in good shape and I’d feel like I had a steam sauna under my zipper after walking only .5-1 mile at a slow-moderate pace.
I had to switch my setup. I wear merino base layers with various weights depending on temps and put my pants/jacket on at the tree. Takes about 5 minutes and I don’t spend the time in the tree soaking wet because the Merino breathes but naturally absorbs scent.
I feel if I can sit for an extra 1-2 hours it’s better than canning up my scent completely and being miserable for the entire sit especially when it’s cold and I’ve sweated in my suit

I dont' think you could wear anything and not sweat your balls off after climbing a tree in gulf coast state bow season heat. Super glad im hunting Mn and I like my scent lock up here. Had does at 8 yards the other night down wind and I was only 8feet high above them... they didn't blow or run ... and continued down the trail passing downwind of me. It works if you use the regimen correctly and dont overlook stuff..

I have talked to john E and he pretty much agreed scent control in above 80-90 degree heat is almost impossible. I don't use scent lock anymore (I still wear the camo at times as it is well made) I just hunt the wind and try to stay as clean as I can, rubber boots, etc.... If I lived up north I'd probably use it more.

I know everybody is on scentloc here but I like my scent blocker feather weight trinity it’s light and scent blocker. Well made even if you believe scent loc is 10000 times better I would rather wear some than none when it comes to scent control

I quit using it also. It’s just too hot. I used it in the winter as well but still got busted. I’m tried to be a tedious as I could with a regimen but I’m sure I was missing something. It just wasn’t worth the effort to still get busted.
