I just picked up an awl at harbor freight to add to my kit.. Good tool, especially for stuff too thick/awkward for a machine.

Now you see why I love mine! :D

I got my speedy stitcher the other day and just completed a double d-ring strap for my treesuit. One side I stitched with the supplied waxed thread the other side I stitched with 80lb Tuf Line XP braid.

The braid laid down cleaner and pulled through the two 2" heavy straps I was sewing easier but the waxed thread seemed to have the correct tension the speedy stitcher liked but is bulkier.

Here is a picture of the tuf line side:

I'm new to the website new to saddle hunting and am not planing on making anything you have to sew. But that being said i'm an old commercial fisherman from S Florida and shrimpers down here use spectra for shrimp nets. The ones like Forest Gump used. Smaller diameter is lighter stronger and resists UV light much better than nylon. I have not sewn alot with a needle but have sewn alot with a needle for fishing nets. I'm not an expert but think he was onto something with the braided thread. Spectra is the thread they used in spider wire.

bongo - NOW you post your reply! I've already sewn up my sling with some Dacron B-50 bow string material.
Actually, it worked out very well (other than being yellow string on black webbing). B-50 is 100% poly so it should hold for a while.
I weigh 220 lbs and have sat in it for a while and it appears to be very solid.
