Silent Approach Steps?

To all saddlehunters I hope all is well and tags got filled!!

When it comes to steps for saddle folks I use ameristep strap on tree steps.

Simply the best and not cheap but for the hardcore and dedicated.

Hunt state land or private but believe in stealth, portability, and being able to literally hunt any tree while being lightweight then I suggest you find these steps to fulfill your arsenal.

Happy hunting

I want to support the company, but honestly they’re not very good. I had them flip up on me a lot due to the design. I had to flip them back with my foot so I could stand on them which wasn’t fun.
That will happen if you are setting them to far apart , as in trying to take too big of a step up . As long as you don't space them to far apart that won't happen . There is a certain way they need to be put up so it does not make it miserable . It took me a while to figure them out , but once I got the principles down I was very happy !

Climbing or platform?

I wonder why they made them that way. I noticed in one of the videos how easy the guy flipped it while on the tree. Seems like they would have built that out of the step.
They were designed this way to be able to put up with either side facing either way , so you can put them up and be able to pull the strap tight toward you , and not have to pull every other strap tight away from you . We felt there was a safety factor in being able to pull the strap toward you as opposed to have to push it away. As long as you don't try and step further than what is comfortable it really isn't an issue. My desire is to not raise my heart rate when I climb , if I try and extend my step reach , it makes me uncomfortable and then raises my heart rate. I strongly dislike to sweat !

Do you think that the strap hole can be modified a little bit so the strap tends to quit riding up in the curvature of the step if that makes sense. In other words when the strap hole begins to curve from one side of the step to the other could you just open that up and make it flatter(90 degrees instead of curved) so it will hold tighter. Also in doing so would maybe it would keep the step from wanting to flip quite as easily.

We did actually have the slot with 90 degrees at the beginning. It actually made the step want to catch in the bottom and pull away from the tree . The curved opening helped the step to slide down the tree so it would seat better and not hinge.

I talked with Shawn at the Ohio Deer and Turkey show this past weekend. We talked about some of the feedback as well as everything else. As of right now it seems he has is no plans to make a different style step, he has a lot of time and money in this current mold, so I can’t blame him. So maybe farther down the road he might. As a platform they will work, YOU MUST HAVE A GOOD RATCHET STRAP. I think he is selling them with a good ratchet strap now, as a saddle hunting platform.

Thanks,
Boswell
It was good seeing you Bobby ! And yes , we are now offering the black heavy duty ratchet for the platform package. Also , I do have a plan for a new platform step as actually next on the agenda , but it is depending on being able to generate enough funds to pay for the new mold. The saddle hunters have been amazing and we have been selling quite a few platforms , if we can continue to sell platforms , and hopefully add the climbing system to peoples plan , we can make it happen this year ! Keeping our fingers crossed !! Thanks again guys !

These steps look good but hope the edges are rounded wouldnt take much to cut that strap with some movement

Thanks, and yes , the openings are completely rounded. I have used the same set of straps for over a year, and they show very little wear after an excessive amount of use.
