Why not just make 2 slots side by side in the step instead of adding a piece to them?

ooooooo that looks fun! Thanks for the suggestion. They also make a drill press for the Dremel that you can put an XY table on( I think it may have to be modified some if I remember correctly). The biggest difference between this and a regular drill press is the Dremel can be sideloaded. The biggest problem is it is not very Stout. I'm going to see if I can find one of these in the store so I can take a better look at it. Even if the adjustment is manual if it can just go a little bit at a time it might be worth being able to make the hole a little straighter. The next problem to solve this how to get the material to clear the slot so it doesn't keep clogging the bits up.

Yup heres a test with a plastic slide.
I like that better too.Would it be better to run it through the other way so that the slide wasn't between the tree and the step? Just a thought.
Slots like that are a heck of a lot easier to do than making a deep slot through the whole side profile. Make wide radii on the edges the strap touches and I think it's worth a shot.Picture 2 slots where the arrows are and remove the top section?

I was thinking the pressure of the strap over the step would keep it more stable? No clue, need to test when I get the metal slides in.I like that better too.
Good point, try them both. It may not matter.I was thinking the pressure of the strap over the step would keep it more stable? No clue, need to test when I get the metal slides in.
When I started this project this was my first thought. Ater looking at the amount of material to come out making two slots versus one although they would be easier it would only leave you with a small piece of metal in between. After you zig zag the strap through I just felt like it would put a lot of pressure on that middle piece unless you make the step much wider. Not to mention it would really put that strap in a bind. I also thought it would put too much pressure on the strap and not pull to the tree as tight. Also then all of your weight would be held by the little thin strip of metal in the middle. I just felt like strength-wise it was worth making the single slot all the way through the width of the step. I may make a step in this fashion just to try it and see but I really don't like the idea of all my weight being held by that one little strip of metal in the middle.Picture 2 slots where the arrows are and remove the top section?

I see said the blind man! Do me a favor and when you get a chance to put them on the tree and see how tight they pull to the tree let me know it may be worth making a single wide slot in the middle to run the strap through and use those on the outside just like you have them. My only concern is running the strap around something like that is going to affect how tight you can get them to the tree especially when it comes to side pressure. If you get a chance to test them keep me posted please I'm curious to see how that works.Yup heres a test with a plastic slide.
The metal slide will work mint.

Haven't there been some rumors that they're working on a new option/design to be used as a platform?
@Boudreaux do you have any more insight on these since the video you posted, which looks to have been from mid-December?
I guess then they work as a platform. A good ratchet strap.YOU MUST HAVE A GOOD RATCHET STRAP
I think he is selling them with a good ratchet strap now, as a saddle hunting platform.
Yes they are selling the saddle hunting platform. I ordered one and just received it. Looks like it will be awesome. Strap is heavy duty as is the ratchet.I talked with Shawn at the Ohio Deer and Turkey show this past weekend. We talked about some of the feedback as well as everything else. As of right now it seems he has is no plans to make a different style step, he has a lot of time and money in this current mold, so I can’t blame him. So maybe farther down the road he might. Do you think that the strap hole can be modified a little bit so the strap tends to quit riding up in the curvature of the step if that makes sense. In other words when the strap hole begins to curve from one side of the step to the other could you just open that up and make it flatter(90 degrees instead of curved) so it will hold tighter. Also in doing so would maybe it would keep the step from wanting to flip quite as easily.I talked with Shawn at the Ohio Deer and Turkey show this past weekend. I used instamorph to make the hole smaller with less curvature. It helped a little but they still wanted to flip up on me.Do you think that the strap hole can be modified a little bit so the strap tends to quit riding up in the curvature of the step if that makes sense.
