I was showing my cousin a couple of mobile hunting options he could adopt for an upcoming out of state hunt when my platform snapped!

Luckily my mantis did its job and I walked away without a scratch. I might need to take a closer look at the predator.

Wow not good. Glad you were strapped in but the worst part is getting ripped open on the jagged broken edges. That could have been really bad.

Surprised it broke like that. The XOP seat is pretty heavy duty. Much more than the Predator.

Anyone else over 215 having the same issue? I've been trying to source parts to make a platform just like that one.

How tight was the strap when you were caming it
It was tight, but not excessively tight.
I was hooked in and only 4 ft off the ground but it is pretty terrifying when I think about what could have happened if I were 25+ft up and had a bow in my hand. The saddle would have still saved me but still...
Unfortunately my back up is an identical platform.

That's the first one like that anyone has ever posted, hopefully the last.

Yeah, you have my attention. My platform is nearly identical and I push 230 +-
Glad your okay!

I’m 225 normally with my hunting/hip boots, bow and backpack I would assume closer to 250. I built a shop rider platform on a 1 1/4” 11ga/.120 steel square tube bar. It’s a little heavier but I’m on private land without the long hikes. Lately I’ve abused it pretty severely with no problems. You may feel safer on a similar platform.

Ultimately those platforms are tree stand seats that are being adapted for platforms and not intended for that use and that camming action. There have been a handful of different breaks over the past couple years. This should be a good reminder to every to be extra safe when using them!

And point to the fact that a ROS is way better :)

I first used a lw seat and felt it bend first time I stood on it. Xop has shown to be stronger. I was 230 plus.

My XOP casting looks a bit different from the one shown but I don't know if there's any difference in strength. Like some of the other guys above, I'm no lightweight either. Knowing this casting was not designed for this purpose, I always have both lineman's belt and tether in play before I step up on it. Maybe dropping a few pounds isn't a bad idea...

Mine broke in the exact same spot last year, just didn't shear all the way off. I think there's a post on here somewhere.

Glad your okay. Did you ever drop it from the tree. I did and put a small crack in it and never used it again
