This is why we have sub categories of automotive vehicles, in this case Performance Sports Cars, Semi-trucks, and pickups. That’s a whole nother can of tuna. Airplanes, spaceships, submarines, and boats are all vehicles as well, with subcategories therein.

No reason we can’t talk about commercial saddle platforms comparatively and enjoy some benefit from that discussion. If there is something unique to the predator, just point it out. The predator isn’t so different that it needs its own subcategory.
it started as a thread about the predator ...right?

Keeps having????...wow...I politely disagree...out of all that have been made and sold I have seen like 2 people have had an issue...I would say they have a pretty good batting average...I dont think there are a bunch of better guys either...tethrd has done as much if not more than anyone in the saddle hunting community...I just get aggravated with all the naysayers about those guys...I have blocked a couple of guys who are constantly talking smack about them...go invent and market and sell your own gear if you dont like tethrd gear...lemme know how it works out for you...I absolutely love my predator...rock solid compact light easily installed and I wouldnt even think of selling it ...just my opinion...

The track record may be pretty good but there have been multiple separate instances of breakage, so that’s accurate as as well

The first gen had some catastrophic failures reported, the recently reported cracks near the leveling bolt on some gen 2 units has yet to be associated with catastrophic failure and may be a manufacturing flaw in a single production run or only a few units. Only time will tell.

Not a naysayer, just observing what’s been reported. Lots of folks love their predator platform, that’s clear as well.

And your entitled to yours.
Mine is they sell good stuff with piss poor quality control. Customer service is sketchy to say the least. Oh yeah one last salvo, they stole the Mantis saddle design from a true "good" guy
Edit: Put me in the penalty box

It started off as a thread about why so many people are selling their predator. How far we’ve come from addressing solely that.

Tom commented on the Treesuit, maybe in response to another member, and made the vehicle analogy. I disagreed with correlation presented by that analogy, and stated why, that’s all.

Like I said, if there are some unique benefits of the predator platform, state them. While not related to why people are selling them, I think it’s great to talk about what this gear has to offer. But when you do that, it begs for comparison to other gear.

For example, a comparison: the ridge runner is about the same weight and has adjustable leveling. However, the ridge runner has less adjustability in the downward direction than the predator.

Alternately, the predator offers x degrees of leveling above center and x degrees below center, and weighs x lbs.

Tethrd can and should provide the latter, the former is, to me, appropriate to a forum about saddle hunting.

There has been roughly 30 Gen2 platforms crack near the leveling bolt. Out of the number sold that’s a VERY small number. Pretty sure it ended up being one small run of ones that had issues. The XL’s are the same dimensions in the same area and there have been zero failures that I know of. Hope that gives a little insight.

I'm curious if the failures at the leveling bolt have any relation to the platform being set/adjusted far out of being 90 degrees level?
I know some guys find it more comfortable to angle the platform downward. Is it possible that an extreme angle puts more stress where the bolt is?

I really don’t think so. If that were the case I believe there would be a lot more failures and they would be spread out over multiple builds.

For the record, I didn't initiate the analogy to vehicles.

I did say that comparisons are often made apples to oranges, and what I meant by that is there ARE attributes the Predator has over some other platforms...hence my comment on apples to oranges. I was specifically talking about the leveling capability of the Predator which is very important to me. I mentioned the Treesuit as a comparison because it cannot be leveled (although Mark has told me that he is working on a version that can be leveled). However, we live in a world of trade offs. I don't want to morph the thread. There are a few other threads that specifically compare platforms. The OP was asking about Predators, but some others are inserting opinions on other brands. I was just trying to caution that doing so can be misleading.

For the record I was simply stating my views of the situation. I made a poor analogy but in no way was I product bashing. I don’t know the tethrd guys and wasn’t commenting on them as individuals. I’m glad to hear that this new issue seems to be very small but that doesn’t me it’s not an issue.

I didn’t use mine at all last season so I was considering getting rid of it to begin with. Then, when I saw the issues recently, I was sold on letting it go. That said, mine was fine and I had heavier guys use it other than me. I am a bit bothered how things went with the gen 1’s, but... it didn’t necessarily concern me since I didn’t own one. Although, I thought it could’ve been handled better.

I get it, but the OP was the one asking about the Treesuit.

Not to mention the thread was specifically about why so many predators are for sale; there’s like 3 pages on how to cam the thing...much of which you’re partIcipating in. Which is fine. These things run their own course.

It seems silly to me when someone (not you) says “this started off as a thread about the predator....right?” and that person is earlier talking about trying a scout.

Maybe only people selling a predator should be allowed a response, to avoid further misleading discussion, or we can all just enjoy talking gear.

I believe the OP's question has been thoroughly answered. There's nothing further that can be accomplished on the Saddlehunter.com forum. Specific questions about the integrity of the product should be taken up with the company directly. Accordingly this thread is being locked.
