SRT pre-sets with paracord

I have a couple of dynamite trees that I have hunted in the past that are some species of oak that is super limby. The limbs provide for great early season cover but make climbing them a PITA. I’ve used rapid rail sticks for pre-sets in the past but I’m tired of putting them up and taking them down every season. They are on public and can’t go out more than 7 days before the opener and have to be out 7 days after close. I think SRT pre-sets would be the bees knees.

For you SRT guys, how are you doing your paracord presets? I need some explanation on the process and visuals if you have any. I’m not really concerned with the actual SRT method as there are some good threads and videos about that on this site and YouTube. any info is appreciated.

What I do is once I get my throw ball where I want it, or if I'm already in a tree I'm going to hunt again, I'll either use paracord or braided fishing line depending on what time of year it is and leave that out to pull my climbing rope up. Squirrels will chew the paracord so I use the fishing line on all my srt presets over the summer then pull up paracord when season comes in. Plus it's harder for someone to find your tree with fishing line.

Check out NY saddle hunter on you tube.
He is on here as well.
Good Stuff!

On private, I put a gear hook at the base of the tree and tie the paracord or line to it. I have several 75ft pieces of paracord ready to go.

I like the fishing line idea. We are flush with squirrels. What strength do you use? Is it necessary to replace with paracord during season or can you just use the fishing line?

I use 50# green braid for off season. It tangles very easy so I've been leaving the paracord during season and havent had anything chew it up so far. Also it's too thin/sharp to pull your climbing rope up with only the braid, so I pull paracord up with the fishing line then my rope. I may try tying the paracord into a loop and leaving it that way instead of having the ends separate to prevent it from accidentally falling. I also use a separate cord for pulling the climbing rope down. I tried using the cord that was already there and that made it confusing at times.

I would think that you could tie a loop in each end of the paracord and clip it together with a cheap keychain biner. Probably want to pull it up 10’ or so from one end so that the biner isn’t sitting there at eye level.

I just connect my loop of paracord with a springless cordlock. Nothing to rust and increases the versatility.

I tie a loop that is used to tie on my climbing rope.

Could we trouble you for a pic of how you do it? I can't remember the knot but I started doing this too in hopes of leaving the loop connected

Just tie an overhand knot creating a loop. About a 3-6” loop is fine.

I kept looking for this thread today. Just couldn’t find it until Ontariofarmer liked a comment. Lol

How are you getting the tag end of your climbing rope through the bight? I assume you’re not using a long enough climbing rope that you can have both ends within reach one you have pulled it up. I was envisioning having to run the paracord through the bight with the tag end of the rope to follow.

I have 75’ of climbing rope.
I don’t remember the name of the knot but you wrap that paracord loop over the top of the rope and around under itself and then up over the tag end of the rope.

I wouldn't assume that, most guys are using around 40'+ according to all the other SRT threads. Myself included. I just feel dumb not to have thought of the continuous loop. I've been leaving a length of paracord in the woods that I can barely reach comfortably (~7.5'). I untie the simple overhand knot when I get to the tree and tie one end to my rope.

PJC-that's a great technique.
