Stung by USPS

Here’s something that I can’t wrap my head around with UPS. I ordered something from Amazon. I see it ships out of Dallas / Fort Worth Tx. Great straight short across 20 to Monroe La. I check the next day and the package is in Jackson Ms. It went right through Monroe to go 2 hours east sit for 2 days. Then sent 2 hours back west. I guess I was the only person that ordered anything at all from Amazon that day. Lol

It will have gone from supplier to local depot, to major shipping hub, to local depot, and then to you. I work in logistics and we use all of the major shippers (USPS, UPS, Fedex, DHL) for various things. If you're buying directly from a reasonable sized company that is packing and shipping it, they will have regular collections from the carriers. In our case, we have a full truckload every day to each. Smaller companies will build up a stack and take it to their local office. From there, it goes out through the hub and spoke model and depending on the origin/destination/hub locations, you might have items travel across the country which it could have been right down the street.

I had a similar situation with my deceased mother’s final tax return. Sent it via USPS tracking number and the US Post Iffice has no clue what happened and if you wait too long there is no way of finding out. Still sure not what to do and have been debating calling the IRS. I have an e-copy of it but because she had passed I couldn’t e-file it!

Oh I get that I’m a truck driver. Just cause the oranges say they’re from Florida doesn’t mean they’re from Florida. I heard of companies in California transporting oranges from California to Florida then back. So they can say they’re from Florida. So technically yes they are but technically they’re not.
I’ve hauled a load from Kennewick Wa to Lake Erie Pa. Just to have to same load shipped back to Wa. It was inventory week so if it wasn’t in the warehouse they didn’t have to count it.

There was a similar story at my company when I worked in another country. We are incentivized on how much working capital we have on the books (we want little to none). Just before taking the snapshot we shipped a couple trucks and the stock to have them drive around the main beltway of the city for the day. Shortly after that the snapshot rules changed...
