I have been considering this and probably will proceed, but I do have a question and wanted everyones thoughts...does taping the loops prevent inspection of potential wear that could result in failure?

I don't think it could... the tape is much less sturdy than the webbing. I would feel that the tape would become damaged before the underlying webbing did.
That said, if you had a fall arrest on the SitDrag, I would remove the tape, and any removable add-ons, for a thorough inspection.

I agree with Ike. Also, you could sew the loops with a sewing awl instead of taping. I haven't taped mine and find it unnecessary after stitching them.

I am sewing AND taping.

I taped mine with Gorilla tape after sewing. Any wear will be very visible and will be to the tape first. It might not be needed but it doesn't seem to hurt.

I wrapped the loop material around an approximate 6" piece of 9mm rope and taped it with cloth camo tape. The rope inside the loop provided a solid hook up for the biners. I agree, the tape will show wear before the loop material. I think the rope may also aid in distributing the pressure from the biners.

I have taped mine and think it makes it more rigid plus the contrast in in black tape to the green webbing is a visual reference "clip here". Also, if the tape shows wear it should wear before damage to the loops, then unwrap, inspect, rewrap.
