Team 10

People pass up a lot of game trying to get deep! I have a buddy that spends more time in the woods than most and he has killed big bucks the last few years 100 yards from the truck. Pokes fun at me when I walk in a mile or more. I just can’t help but wander what’s on the next hillside and I despise hunting around other people.
He's right lol I just started my morning going the wrong direction I guess.

All done and "cheap aging" in the fridge by 2pm. Can't let 'em hang and go through rigor, too warm... Here's a pic of some prepped, with a sliced tenderloin that I dry brined for a supper appetizer, and my "sissy" drink of choice lol.

The check in station opens at 5 fri but I have to get my kid to the bus stop so I'll show up whenever I get there. I havent really formed any type of plan yet....waiting to get a more accurate wind forecast later in the week. I lucked out with this wma and drew first archery and first muzzleloader so I should have some decent odds. I went there maybe a month ago and rode my bike around. Lots of recent burn and "smashing".....the have an old road paving roller machine that they welded knife plates onto the drum and they go drive over the palmettos crushing them and opening thing up

Well I was able to get out on area close to the house for a quick scout last weekend.

One spot looks like last year, new spot was a strikeout.

Set up cel cam on good spot. Instantly getting pictures, last night action really ramped up.

We have a cool front coming through, and the weather this weekend should be mid 50’s lows. I’ll probably hunt at least one morning, possibly an afternoon too.

On of my best spots is 70 yards from the road and depending on what tree I’m in that day, I can sometimes see the Subaru from the tree.

I need to be sitting in November, not just for a doe, right? LMAO! I'm kinda feeling a "back to my roots" year, maybe put 10 or 20 in the freezer. JK, IDK if I have that drive anymore, now that sounds like a lot of work haha...

I'm feeling really good about this weekend, team. I didn't booger my spot but I think my approach was heard and they just hung up about 80 yards from me. Wind will be right Friday meeting! This cold front might send us to the top!

I'll be out in PA on Saturday for a morning and an afternoon sit, hopefully I get into some does! Looks like I have more rain coming in, and it'll get cooler throughout the day. I have a buddy coming up, but we'll see if the rain makes him bail, he still has his buck tag. Then the following week I gotta make a decision on other state license purchases.

Weather is looking mighty fine the next 10 days. I’m trying to get out after work tomorrow and hit the beginning of the cold front. Same with Friday evening and Saturday morning.

We’ve got some of that too here in Northern Virginia, my plan is to sneak out a couple days next week.

It’s been low-mid 80s the last 5 days so hoping this prompts some more movement. It will certainly make being out in the woods more pleasurable.

Rain and coolish weather. I’ll hunt at last tomo afternoon and Saturday morning looks like. Lot of rain. Should be easy to identify fresh tracks and trails

That’s my plan exactly, walk the swamp edge and find the biggest set of tracks and/or the most used trail in/out of the swamp and set up on it.

Three cheers for cooler weather!

Looks like I will be able to get out tomorrow morning on some public near me. Saving the private until the bucks start to daylight.
Hopefully I see some deer, looks like rain coming in after the morning hunt. Should have them on their feet

I thought I was gonna be solo the whole hunt but my neighbor gonna join me for the afternoon or 2. Wind predictions looking good. Sunday will be 10 degrees cooler than the other 2 days. Hot and humid fri sat. So since I can't get there and beat the early crowd I slide in later and go see where everybody parked and then go look at the areas that don't have any vehicles. He knows where he wants to go and showing up around 1:30. I meet him at the check in and transfer his stuff over to my truck since we have to share a vehicle inside the wma. Long skinny wma. 9 miles long but no more than 3/4 mile wide.

Back out in the woods. Called out sick today because I had to get the covid booster yesterday (not trying to get into it, mandatory for my job) and it sucked. Fever all night and a bit this AM but feeling a bit better now and decided better to feel crappy in the woods than crappy at home. Same location as yesterday, I don't have the energy to scout around today so trying to figure out if the herd of deer Saturday was a fluke or if the empty woods yesterday was. Fingers crossed.

Edit: 6 pm seen 4 does so far. Problem is they all saw me too. Got to full draw on one but she wouldn't walk out from behind a stick and then spotted/smelled me. Argh. I'm getting a new saddle I think, this OG method isn't comfortable any more and I'm fidgeting too much.

Edit: 8:30pm pretty sure I gut shot a doe at close to 7. She ran off toward private blowing over and over and disappeared down a hillside so I got down pretty quickly and went to look at the arrow. Very disappointed with myself, would love to blame her taking a step but I think I just stretched the shot out a bit too much for the light I had (roughly 33 yards to the arrow in the ground so not a crazy shot but likely longer than I should have taken). arrow has no blood whatsoever on it, it's just slightly wet (seems to be clear liquid, not green at all) and smells ever so slightly off. I wiped it off and put it back in the quiver before taking a photo as well ugh. I've been grid searching in the direction she went, have worked my way all the way to the top of the hill where she disappeared towards private property boundary and can't find any blood/sign anywhere. None at the shot sight or arrow either. Going to search around some more at the top of the hill because I don't want to bump her if she's somewhat close but I'm not too hopeful at this point and technically I'm not supposed to be here much longer. Ugh frustrating. I suppose it happens sooner or later but it still sucks. I should have just shot one of the yearlings that was closer instead of waiting for Mama to give me a shot and then rushing it. One of the yearlings blew just as I was shooting so I think I rushed it. But no excuses.

Edit: 9:15 I'm calling it. Dangit. Can't find anything.
