Team 10

NY trip came up empty. Saw one small buck and some doe but nothing in range. I might head back up there late season with my flintlock to use up those tags. Bear season starts up this weekend and then rifle the weekend after Thanksgiving. This will be the first time in a long time I have a buck tag for rifle. (Spent to much time in the hospital or focused on that one big buck I saw this year I guess) if anything else, I have late season flintlock which is my favorite season and I have not had a buck tag for that in a really long time! It would be fun to get one with the smoke pole.

I'm going to sit on Saturday morning in the one NJ zone I still have, I can't hunt the afternoon... I'm not going to be picky this sit, but if it doesn't pan out for me I may buy a southern zone with liberal season dates. Rifle season also opens in PA for me in a little over a week, although I really don't like that portion of the season lol (I usually end up scouting with a rifle in my hand, because I dislike the pumpkin patch lol). Then I still have the later "primitive" season, which is usually when I shoot my does (hopefully).

My son is getting married Dec 16 and for his bachelor trip he chose to go bow hunting in the Sipsey Wilderness. So, Monday thru Wednesday we will be camping and hunting. Biggest problem is the weather was looking good 2 weeks ago when we planned the trip now its showing rain and even thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday. Not fun for tent camping. So, he may change his mind. But if not, I should get 3 days of hunting in next week.

The worse it is the more I like it lol, guess I'm a sucker for "type 2" fun, but is it really "type 2" if you enjoy it during the fact? I honestly enjoy pushing myself and my gear, without good gear though I can see it being a drag...

I have the gear, but these 5 boys and my son's future father-in-law probably dont have the best gear. I have been planning on a hunt like this for myself for several years, so I have picked up a piece here and there, but my son and his friends have only had about 2 weeks to plan so their gear is limited.

This is a guarantee they’ll kill. Unprepared, unsafe, coming in on two wheels hungry dehydrated messes of hunters always kill. Law of nature. Can I jump in?! Haha

We’re averaging a little over 6 points per team member.

Team 7 is averaging almost 10!

We have some work to do…cash in the yard passes and get the honey do lists taken care of. Let’s go!
Likely little I can do other than cheerlead, 18 points blows my last few seasons away and I haven't seen any mature bucks since I shot mine. Gonna keep trying though, I've got a bonus buck tag for archery (and I can shoot one during firearms/ml season too).

Let's go team 10!

Went to a new spot today for some scouting. Saw a forky, jumped an antlered deer and saw a doe on the way out. With duck opening this weekend I'm afraid it's gonna move them around a bit. Might try and get out in the rain Tues Wed.

Been a season of spikes for me. Still time …

My week off started last Friday. Unfortunately my sure doe spot seems to be lacking activity after the farmer disked in the corn stalks. Friday was a bust. This weekend was derailed by a family medical issue that changed priorities.
I'm hitting it hard today and tomorrow. Occasional light rain today with a big front coming through tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Found a spot today with a couple of scrapes that have recently been worked.
Oh and by the way.... I picked up a tree umbrella at a garage sale a few years ago. I am loving this thing!

Good luck all!

Went out for a quick after work sit -much harder to do that with daylight savings than it was in early season, so not sure if it's a good idea, didn't see anything. Walked past the spot I took my kids in the ground blind a bit ago, and found quite a bit of semi-fresh poop in the bare spot. Perhaps it's coincidence, perhaps I accidentally created a false scrape, but there's at least one deer out there that didn't mind walking where my kids and I left plenty of human scent. Saw a new rub in the area too so there's at least one more buck around, probably one of the spikes I've passed or the one-spike one forked antler buck I call a spork.

Off to PA for Thanksgiving weekend with the extended family. Unlikely I'll hunt up there but I'm keeping the bow in the truck just in case I see a nice one on their property that makes me run out and buy a tag.

Went out this morning with my 12yo. We had a buck encounter early but he can't sit still so we got busted. Then had another encounter with a lone doe, and later 2 does came thru. I found an area that had 5 fresh scrapes and some newish rubs I plan to go back to tomorrow if I can steal her car and go hunt

I am all excited for hunting camp this weekend for the first day of rifle in PA. We are up at camp with family and a bunch of young kids all hyped up to hit the woods tomorrow and my brother in law hits the floor in pain… we got him in my truck and headed to the ER. While driving here and he moaning in pain and said I promise I am not trying to one up your ER visit earlier this season to which I replied jokingly at least I waiting until the end of the hunt. Then he just passed out hard in the car… came too when I was speeding thru a town calling 911 for an ambulance to meet us and then lucky me gets pulled over by a cop. They gave me a free pass with him bent over moaning and throwing up in my passenger seat.

As bad as it sounds… it’s turning out to be a kidney stone. As a loving brother in law I am riding him hard to pass this thing so we can be in the woods by sunrise… the kids are counting on us! … and I have tags to fill.

Been there done that, have several t shirts. Don’t envy your BiL one bit. Leave him at the ER, he sounds cool enough to understand

He made it out this morning. A little late which I will give him a hard time about but he did make it.

Well rut was slow and gun season was a bust. A few does and small bucks all got a pass.

I leave Monday morning for a 19 day honeymoon trip so most of my season is done. I’ll get out a few times for late antlerless and might get out for a bow hunt or two and a last minute buck. Don’t want to eat tag soup this year, I’m down to only a few packages of steaks left.

Good luck everyone! Hopefully the 2nd rut here in the Midwest heats up soon.
