My Tethrd mantis showed up Friday. This this is awesome. I picked up a syshauler and the entire thing was in the syshauler. I had ropes for my lineman’s belt and tether already from other harnesses and my rock climbing days.

I can say that without a doubt this thing is a quality product.

I got to thinking about safety and thought an additional amsteel bridge would add some redundancy should one fail. Also a second tether as well. This comes from my engineering perspective I work I’m waste water for a pump company and you always have backup should one fail.

If you are looking at buying one I can say it is a great product and well worth the money.

Yeah tethrd did a great job. If it gives you any peace of mind most tethers can hold a small car. So unless yours is old or damaged you will be just fine. Enjoy your new mantis. You bought the best.

I placed it December 10th I read that it would be 6 weeks for delivery, knowing that I figured I would be getting this for next season so the wait was not that bad. I ordered the XL because I am 6’1” and 265lbs I’m a 38” waiste it fits fine there is actually a good bit of room for expansion and contraction. I would assume that the smaller sizes would be a bit easier to come by. I kind of fall as an oddity because, I like to go deep and typically walk 5-10 miles in when I’m turkey hunting most guys my size do not venture that far from the truck.

Wow 5-10 miles in for a turkey?! A few of my elk spots are only 3-4 miles in...

Not trying to be argumentative, but since you are a guy that used to rock climb... is there really a need for an extra bridge and tether? As long as we inspect everything for wear, these things are rated for 7,700lbs. The level of risk is so low, can you imagine climbing a rock wall with two lead ropes and wearing two harnesses? Should we wear two helmets when biking? Haha, just giving you a hard time, glad people are leaning toward safety instead of using paracord as a tether :)

I often will run a loop at the end of my tether and attach it to one of the saddle loops (where bridge attaches). This is just in case my bridge, carbineer or ropeman fails. I trust my actual tether and replace them every year or two. I don't think it is necessary for a second bridge as all you want to do is stop a fall if main bridge was to break.

I also think there is a difference in back up for mechanical parts like a pump as those do fail due to use/wear and tear and the damage is often internal and out of eyesight. inspect you saddle gear and you should be OK.

Getting older and wiser I don’t rock climb anymore. I know it is over kill it is just the way I see things from the engineering perspective from the field I am in where everything is redundant. Most like not going to do that but you never know.

I back up my ropeman and bridge with a simple 6mm prusik connected to a lineman’s loop. I personally see no reason to back up my tether. If I “fall” it will only be a few inches and won’t come close to meeting the fall rating of the tether. Better chance of being struck by lightning or have a dead limb hit me.

I have an alpine butterfly at the end of my tether that can be clipped into the carabiner on my lineman’s loop but the prusik eliminates that requirement. It also works as a stopper knot.

That is a cool tree setup. Sycamore tree? Great cover. Is that the sitka ascent shirt and pants? I use them in early season too.

Strawberry Guava tree, one of my hog hunting spots in Hawaii. The ascent shirt and pants is all I wear out here. I use the ascent system quite a bit in the mainland as well.

I’m new, but my opinion is that if you are comfortable with it, redundancy is good. I have always put a redundant strap on my stands, my view is that my family is worth the extra.
