Tethrd one stick…… one sticking aider

The EWO continuous loop aider is made for use with the Tethrd One Stick among others; however, I’m not aware of any official correspondence or product information regarding the use of aiders and the One Stick or am I missing something?

Nope. I was't aware EWO offered that.

It's not even possible to zoom in to analyze the aider-stick connection on EWO's site. Maybe someone has extensive (like 1 season) experience with them and can share how it's gone.

Personally, I think a Tethrd 1 stick is a poor choice as a one stick. As for the aider, I can't say what will or won't work. Just that the step/standoffs are a different design than others and what's worked with other designs shouldn't necessarily be considered transferable.

I wonder what Tethrd has to say on this. They've made butt pads and what not. An aider for their premier design seems like another hot ticket, unless there's a reason to let everyone else assume the liability over such an accessory. Idk.

Yeah I’m mixing and matching here, and I apologize for veering off the premise of the OG post. I’m strictly speaking of aiders for using the tethrd one stick; however, not for one sticking. I agree with you @Plebe, the tethrd one stick in my opinion would not be an ideal one-sticking stick at all. I just traded for some Gen3 ‘s and have been really liking them but just as climbing sticks. I have the EWO/Amsteel Guy continuous loop three step aider for my bottom Tethrd one stick. It works great!! For my second stick, I was using one of my simple GM climbing 24” loops and have been using that by simply looping it over the steps and the tube of the tethrd one stick. Also with no issues. 4 of these sticks with the 3 step EWO/Amsteel guy continuous loop aider then my second stick with the single 24” GM climbing loop then two other sticks as is and I’m getting 18-20’ plus no problem. Anyway, I’m trying to find out if looping the simple GM climbing loop around the bottom step/tube would cause problems. Sorry to “hi-Jack” as some say!!!

Is it not recommended to use a simple loop style aider around the post with these sticks? I’ve used one on a couple of hunts with no issues with the one stick but I don’t want to continue if there is a weakness at the juncture of the step/standoff and tube.

How are you getting the loop to stay on with the way the step/standoff is one piece and no tube sticks up past the step/standoff?

@SRT Saddle Hunter, in his stick review on his YT channel mentioned his use of an aider on the One-Stick and it didn’t go well apparently. I think aiders like the EWO continuous loop aider which requires you to place the weight on the actual step is ok to use but wrapping a a simple climb rated loop around the center post or tube is the issue…… is what I’m gathering.

Do you know the name of his channel or have a link to this video?

Anyone finding abrasion on their Tethrd One stick aiders at the junction between aider and step/standoff?

I have another thread about this asking for ideas.

I was tinkering around with amsteel and took the sheath off 550 paracord and put it over my 1/8" amsteel and then made a simple aider. It is not like the ones that go on the ends of the steps (long story). Anyways, where the paracord-clad amsteel went over the edge of the step, the 90 degree angle of the step cut through the paracord sheath after stepping on the aider like 5 or 10 times from the ground. I know paracord sheath isn't the most durable thing....but that seemed a little extreme.

It's the video I linked for you earlier. It was a hook type aider that bent or damaged the ONE stick (step/standoff).

He sells fixed amsteel aiders for the Tethrd One sticks. https://rdaoutdoors.com/products/tethrd-one-fixed-aider

I simply loop or girth hitch the loop around the tube and steps and I have a castration band to snug it up to the tube/step. Its hard to see in these pictures but the second step from the bottom shows the simple GM Climbing loop around the standoff/step/tube portion of the bottom of the one stick. I can provide other pictures when I get home. One-Sticks.jpg

Thanks, got ya. What's the bottom webbing aider in the pic?

I was wanting to go with a carry as you go aider. You keep that girth hitched loop sling permanently on the second stick on the pic? I thought maybe you had it draped over the top, like a typical carry as you go.

Looks like the bottom aider is bare amsteel over the step. Any abrasion issues?

1. The bottom webbing aider is an EWO/Amsteel Guy Continuous Loop Aider: https://doublesteps.com/product/sewn-aider-with-continuous-loops-no-doublestep/ It just stays on the bottom step during the hunt its simply girth hitched around each end of the step as you can see. So far it is wearing nicely. It was made for this very purpose. It is Amsteel so should hold up. The One Stick steps are not that abrasive, but time will tell. Here's the Saddle Hunting YT video at 3:49 he goes over its use with the Tethrd One Stick:
He is/was a member here but his name isn't showing up when I try to call it up its like Dario47 or something. Maybe he deleted his account????? Or I'm possibly confused at his username on here which is the more likely scenario.

2. As far as the GM Climbing loop, yes it just stays on the bottom step/standoff/tube snugged up with a castration band. But that's my specific area of concern..... not knowing if the One Sticks can take this pressure at the junction of the step/standoffo and stick tube. I'm 175lbs and it seems to be holding up fine so far after three hunts using it this way.

I just ordered the CG 1 from BWMG for a CAYG option for these sticks as well. I hate all this stuff all I do is spend money!!!! Grrr.

Yeah, and I'm OCD enough that I'm gonna have to roll my own aider so that it is EXACTLY the right step length for me.....lol

Both options, the CAYG from BWMG and the Continuous Loop one from EWO allow you to adjust and/or order based on the step spacing you want FYI.
