I have been on here on and over the two years after falling with a ladder stand over 20 feet and being lucky enough to survive and after countless tree stand stolen I found saddlehunter. I own a web a kestrel ameristeps on a strap a climbing seat and wild edge steps and primals. I have learned more from this site than any other . Thank you to making me mobile and safe . I have always been fortunate to shoot lots of deer and my share of Bucks. I have sold most of my stands and will never look back . Thanks to all who share there knowledge here I pass on to all who will listen to the best way to hunt out of a tree.I know I am not alone in my addiction!!

Welcome aboard. If you don't mind me asking, how did you fall? I think most guys on here are always trying to look for ways to make their climb safer, and sometimes hearing what went wrong can be an eye-opener to somebody.

No pressure if you don't feel like sharing. :)

I don’t mind sharing at all especially if helps someone else not go through a fall off 20 feet. I was alone as I usually hunt decided to move a ladder stand over 40 yards to fresh scrapes and when I released the ratchet strap and start down the ladder the stand started to lean off the tree. The support bar broke and I went for a hard fall. I landed on a log and hit my head hard and had the wind knocked out of me but luckily no broken bones. After 15 minutes I was able to come to my senses and painfully head out. I warn everyone I know to not buy cheap ladders from menards or move then when your alone .

Glad you're ok brother. I've done the same maneuver putting stands up and taking them down. Seems easy enough to just lean one against a tree, climb up, and strap it down.

"It'll only take a second."

Again, glad it wasn't worse. Thanks for sharing.

Yes thanks back in the day I seen those trophy saddles and never looked twice at them could have gotten them cheap when they were discountinued lol. I never had problems in climbers and had 10 in locations in the woods locked up but wanted a stealthy way to hunt so figured ladderstands were safe and quit. I even rigged two aluminum bars to form a v with a lock so no one could hunt my ladderstands. Falls theft loud heavy lots of disadvantages to traditional gear .
