Treebolts revisited

Had this drill laying around the house so I put it to use. Great power for a 12volt and drilled 2 tree and the battery indicator still says full. Super light and compact as well.

Is it pretty quiet? Could you drill and hunt same time?

Yeah I'd say it's pretty quite for a drill, if it's calm any drill is going make enough noise to bust you. A cover of some sort would really allow you to use it most of the time I believe.

Yesterday the winds were at 20-25 mph so I was able to get close to my intended spot and still use the motor drill. I'll still carry a hand drill with me though.

How far are you guys drilling into the tree? I just got an EZ kut and some 3/8" grade 8 hardened bolts to mess around with.

The bit will drill a preset depth and then simply rotate to clean the shavings out. Just drill till it stops and continue to rotate bit as you extract it from the hole. This will help get all the cuttings out for smooth bolt insertion.

thanks. I think i will drill to 2". that will leave me with 4" of bolt to stand on.

I think the stopper on the EZKut and woodpecker systems are a little deeper than that. I will have to measure mine when I get home to be sure though.

yep, about 2 7/8" for the bit. that leaves me about 3 and 1/8" inches to stand on with a 6" bolt. Justsomedude, are you using 6 or 8-inch bolts with yours? I might go with 8-inch bolts for trees with thicker bark.

I am using the 6" in both the hand drill and the power drill attachment. Have not noticed any problems with it.

I don't see how the screw tip could make it better. Maybe woodworking where you need a more precise hole location?
The pilot on kreg type worked perfect. The tip also works as a great pilot hole for screw in hangers.
The collar ends up on the twist of the bit. It didn't slip on me, (50 holes) but I will Loctite the setscrew and dab some JB weld to make sure the collar doesn't ever move.

Get the EZKut. Once you have it set up...OH WAIT you don't have to do anything :) that's why it's "EZ" :)
I got my Bolts at Home Depot.

I like the look of that bit but it's a little pricey.
I already had a pocket hole bit and it works great. I set it for 2-1/4 in.
here's a cheaper bit - https://www.ebay.com/i/301895720398?chn=ps&dispItem=1
And here is the ebay link for grade 8 bolts that was posted here somewhere. $30 for 35 bolts -

I bought the same bolts. They must use Chinese steel cause I slightly bent one and I only weigh 180lbs.

Yikes! I was feeling bad about paying more for my bolts at Home Depot. They are as straight as the day I got them
