Truck build

I tracked down some 6 cylinder e series in a junkyard. I'm thinking about playing hooky from work tomorrow and going and getting the steering stuff..... My pump is toast and leaking like crazy so I need to fix asap and that aftermarket pump, while what id prefer, just much more involved. The van stuff is simple unbolt old and install new with no bracket modification. So I go thru my mobile toolbox this evening organize/make sure everything's there for the extraction. I get the bracket, pump, and pressure line... Hopefully won't cost an arm and a leg. Once I have those parts in hand and cleaned up I might be able to swap it after work 1 evening or tackle this weekend.

I keep 2 much junk inside the cab with me.... Once the 3 transfer case shifters get installed I'll lose the hump area storage. I keep my stuff in the center right now so a 3rd person isn't fitting anyway. That arm rest/center console thing broncos have would be sweet

That's the needed bracket and bolts/studs, a pump that appears to be in good condition w/ pulley, high and low pressure lines, and I snagged the dipstick and dipstick tube off the van. Found some lights that look real new and new heavy gauge wire with a big honking fuse. Not a bad haulScreenshot_20240426-174433~2.png

The van dipstick tube would make it to were I wouldn't have to reach down into the engine bay to check the oil. This is a pic of the interweb of 1 installed on a truck. I think I like that and may swap them out. The sticks like 85 feet long hahahaha

The 2 lowest mounting bolts on my truck holding the bracket on are just that...bolts. on the van engine there were 2 studs. I grabbed them off the van engine and may screw them into my block.

Well....the 3 lights work. I was looking at bending some flatbar that would stick out right below the hood and attaching that to the core support. The factory light bracket has adjustment built into it so I just need something to stick out and support the weight of it. The light would be just above the top of the winch control box. The 2 little lights will probably become auxiliary reverse lights off the back of the truck somewhereScreenshot_20240426-225410~2.png

I so stupid sometimes......im out there looking for bucket seats when I have 2 buckets in the ranger cab already I kinda forgot about. 86 xlt ranger seats that had factory power and inflating lumbar support. None of that stuff would work in my truck but they used to be real fancy for the time they were new. If I remember correctly the driver seat in decent shape too.

So for those keeping score at home this is what u need off the van. Bracket and ALL the associated bolts/studs. I was mistaken and the truck block has studs too but they are to short so u need the van studs. Here is a van stud installed next to a truck stud. And the aluminum boss for the bolt that is along the side of the motor up by the valve cover is thicker on the bracket so u need the longer bolt that u should have kept when removing everything off the vanScreenshot_20240428-023605~2.png

The high pressure hose from the van bolts right into the steering box and u just need to barely tweet it for a little extra clearance. Use the truck return lineScreenshot_20240428-023613~2.png

I removed the dummy ac pulley and put a non AC serpentine belt and the tensioner that came with the van bracket because the bolts that bolted my old ac and the dummy pulley much were larger and standard thread and the ac on the newer van used smaller.metric bolts so I'd have to modify the dummy pulley to use it.....anyway, here the money shot .....should have came this way from the factory. So stupid to have the same plastic POS pump that's in a mustang also in an f350 4x4Screenshot_20240428-023625~2.png

Dang, you're making progress quickly! I feel like whenever I try to do something (small) to my truck I end up breaking a bolt or running into some issues that makes it take 4x as long as planned, and here you are smashing it. Strong work, looking forward to the next update.

Not as quickly as I'd like but moving right along....it helps that there's lots of room to work and it's old technology. I don't like working on newer stuff at all.

The truck was leaking oil and I suspected either the lifter inspection cover or oil pressure sending unit. My oil pressure gauge has been fluctuating recently so I had a pretty good idea sending unit was the culprit. Put the new 1 on and fixed that leak. She's all sealed up again for now.

My wife had a 2000 jeep Cherokee 4.0 and that thing was cursed....no mater what u touched 5 other things would break or u would have to disassemble the whole car to fix easy problems. I kinda wish we still had it but I hated that thing

Simple light bar brackets....I get that thing mounted and wired next couple days. Screenshot_20240429-083657~2.png

I also gonna start mocking up rocker panel protection. I got directional drill rod that has up to 30 degrees of memory built in before it'll deform and I think that will make perfect rocker guards. I plan to make them bolt on. Need to be beefy cause that usually where u slam down on stumps or pivot off trees on those tight trails

1 of the more important and pricey items I'm still missing is a locking differential for the rear axle. My first thought was to weld it into a spool and call it a day but after thinking on it more I think it's a better idea to bite the bullet and spend some coin and buy 1. Lockers are insanely expensive for the sterling 10.5.......like a thousand bucks or more depending on what u buy. An arb air locker like what I have in the front axle is 2k. The cheapest option is a lunchbox style locker that's like $350 and I would have bought it a long time ago but u have to have a factory limited slip carrier. I have an open dif carrier and to buy a factory limited slip carrier it's 3 or 4 hundred depending on who's got 1 in stock or find and buy a whole axle out of the junkyard or of somebody listing on Craigslist etc. So I've been holding off on purchasing anything rear locker related and just going to keep it open diff in the back till something comes along...... With all that said, on Saturday I went over to my wheeling buddies house for a little cookout he invited me to. I'm talking with a guy and he's telling me how in a couple weeks he's working on a truck and about to install a locking diff and gear set and low and behold he is removing a factory limited slip carrier out of an 08 super duty. The sterling 10.5 in my truck and an 08 have the same carrier....so I just scored the right carrier I need to use the lunchbox locker that I was wanting to buy. I'm gonna give him a little cash for it cause he just saved me a bunch of money

Good deal, he also would’ve been sitting on something real specific……lol don’t give him all your lunchbox money.
