After going out 7 times and having turkeys skirt around us on high ground and never coming in, I had one roosted this morning to where I was in it's bubble. It flew down on the opposite side of a ridge, and I wasn't sure it was coming in. It started to circle that ridge. I went to the higher ground, because I wasn't going to mess around again.
All of a sudden it HAMMERS 30 yards away from me between where I was and where I was sitting! It sounded like a freight train being that close. This is when I blacked out and got tunnel vision at the same time. He was down over the edge, so I started raking leaves to try to get him to come in.
Then the angry/scared putting started, and he was headed back from where he came... I new it was going sour. I had to make a move. I start sneaking over the edge and I hear him as he's going from right to left.
I raise the shotgun as I'm edging closer. I let out a couple of soft clucks with the mouth call and he sticks up his head. He's in the red dot, but through a little brush, I can do better. He sees me, he bolts.
It's quiet, my body drains of adrenaline, I want to puke.
